+markz68
I just bought a Garmin eTrex Legend and a Prolific Serial-To-USB converter. I need the converter because neither my PC nor my laptop have a serial port. However, I cannot get either EasyGPS or GSAK to upload data to the GPS. I have checked that the two programs are each looking at the right COM port listed in Device Manager (WinXP). Anyone have luck with this? I really don't want to have to input everything manually. +LandRover
If you have a palm make sure that you shut off Hotsync, for whatever reason Hotsync takes over the port and won't let anything else use it if Hotsync is running. Quote Link to comment

Crap, I was hoping you were onto something. Didn't work. Quote Link to comment

I get as far as getting a port assigned and set the software (EasyGPS or GSAK) to match. However, there is no response for the GPSr when trying to upload oe download data. Guess I'll have to load it up from my work PC. Quote Link to comment
+markz68
Thanks for everyones help with this, but I never got the generic serial-to-usb adaptor from ebay to work. However, my dad has one that I borrowed tonight and it works great! Now I have a known manufacturer and part number that will work, so I can get one of those! Just for future reference to anyone else looking for one... The Dynex DX-UBDB9 serial-to-usb converter definitely works with my Garmin eTrex Legend! My Dad got his a year or so ago at BestBuy for his race scanner. According to the receipt in his manual, it was $35.00. Quote Link to comment
