+rnlorna Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I just heard on the news that a package was left near the White House and they have called in the bomb squad. You don't think this could be a geocache, do you? Quote
+Ambrosia Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 All of the caches near the White House are virtual, and no physical ones would be approved right now. Of course, there is a slight possibility of it being a cache that has not been submitted. But suspicious packages/bags/backpacks are found at the White House all the time. Quote
+team moxiepup Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Being jumped by secret service men would definately up the difficulty rating! Quote
+The Leprechauns Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 It was a guy who tossed a package over the fence, and he is in custody. News Story link. Incidents like this are a good reminder of why the Geocaching.com listing guidelines prohibit geocaches at or near government buildings. Quote

They do? Didn't know that. Once you start hiding caches you will need to read and acknowledge the Cache Listing Requirements / Guidelines. The very first section covers "Off Limits" areas. The list of off limits spots that can result in a cache being archived includes the following: Caches near or under public structures deemed potential or possible targets for terrorist attacks. These include but are not limited to highway bridges, dams, government buildings, elementary and secondary schools, and airports. Quote
+What rock? Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 As long as it wasn't a rogue cacher throwing away his fast food bag after taking the McToy for swag Quote
