juliecache
OK, I looked at some lingo places mentioned in earlier threads and am not finding this one: GRF'd Knoxville, Iowa has a pretty new geocache that may have been grf'd. Any ideas on what that means? juliecache Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
That's new to me. Quote Link to comment
+the hermit crabs
I have a guess that is probably wrong... there are some old moving caches that get new "hidden" dates every time they are relocated, so they appear to be new caches even though they've been around for years. Moving caches are no longered allowed, but existing ones can keep moving. So my guess is that it stands for "grandfathered". Quote Link to comment
+wandererrob
Got a link to an example? Ths one is new to me too. Quote Link to comment
juliecache
the abbreviation grf'd can be found in the log for GCTNAJ juliecache Quote Link to comment
+Ed & Julie
the abbreviation grf'd can be found in the log for GCTNAJ juliecache Interesting... From a log on that cache (the first DNF): March 5 by The NVG (408 found)Don't know if this GRF'd all ready or not. I have visited the Tiny Tower in Osky, so I knew where to look. I got up and visually inspected the area, but no dice. The coordinates were dead on, but I checked the tower to the south just to be sure and it wasn't there either. Ed Quote Link to comment
+the hermit crabs
My "grandfathered" guess was definitely wrong, then... here's another example of its use, from Chalco Hills 1 (GC16B0), now archived: "...could not find it. With all the GRF'd logs, this needs to be verified." That log was a DNF, which followed four other DNFs. So it appears to mean "missing", but I can't think of what the letters might stand for. edit: Could be a regional expression -- this cache was in Nebraska and the other one is in Iowa; maybe someone in the Great Plains forum would be more likely to know? +Team Henzlik
I'm not from the Great Plains, but would guess this to possibly mean "Getting Really Frustrated". I've felt this before but never was inclined to create my own acronym. Quote Link to comment
+wandererrob
Hmmmm... gotta agree with Hermit Crabs. It seems to be a local term for missing, perhaps muggled? Fire a post to the Greeat Plains forum, see what they have to say. I'd be curious to find out the answer Quote Link to comment
+bobbarley
Geocache rightly forgotten? Ground really frozen? Gratuitous real find? Quote Link to comment
+Thot
Someone who didn't remember DNF right? Quote Link to comment
+The Leprechauns
gone really fast grabbed really fast ???? Those terms might work if it was a new cache that was placed in a visible location full of muggles. But the Chaco Hills cache sounded like it was the oldest one in the area. I was surprised to see that old cache get archived. Edited March 23, 2006 by The Leprechauns Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
Maybe it was dyslexic for DNF? Or a typo from the brain disconnecting while the hand typed. Not that that happens often to geocachers. Quote Link to comment
+Jhwk
kind of like being pwned Quote Link to comment
