+Mastifflover
City Select v7 is the last one available. They have replaced City Select with City Navigator v7. From what I understand City Select will no longer be supported in 2007. Quote Link to comment
+hunting101
What about the new City Navigator (v.8)?? Really need smaller maps. Hunting101 Nashville, TN Quote Link to comment
+Maingray
Pasted from a follow-up from Garmin Sales Support. "I should also add that when City Navigator v8 is released, it will be divided up into smaller pieces like City Select is now." Quote Link to comment
peter
New versions of CityNavigator-NA have generally come out in late summer. But, as the stockbrokers say, past performance is no guarantee of future results. Quote Link to comment
+SketchySmurf
If v8 is going to be broken up into smaller regions, can you keep v7 loaded up on your GPS simultaneously? Quote Link to comment
CenTexDodger
If v8 is going to be broken up into smaller regions, can you keep v7 loaded up on your GPS simultaneously? Yes, But why would you? Quote Link to comment
+SketchySmurf
uh, because with v7 you can load up the entire country on an SD card, as opposed to v8... which brings up another issue actually. If you buy the full version of v8, then you can load it up to two more GPSs. but if you go the cheaper route and upgrade, doesn't it effectively erase v7 and allow you to load it up to your existing GPS? That would actually be a huge ripoff. You will no longer have the ability to load up any state in the country and instead be locked in to the region you bought at v8. Maybe I am missing something, but why would you not be able to load the entire country of v8 onto an SD card? Upgrading versions does not erase you previous version, unless you choose to uninstall it from your computer. Buying new would give you two more unlocks, but you are going to use one with your current GPS unit, so you would still have one additional, so I am not seeing the advantage. I think you may be confused by the phrase "broken up into smaller regions..." That does not mean you have to purchase separate regions of the country, but rather the map "chunks" that you load into your GPS ar smaller. For you X model users with your 512 mb or larger memory cards that is not a issue. For us 60c/s users with our fixed 56mb of storage it is. Having very large map segments limits the amount of flexibility we have for loading maps. With the smaller chunks we can load the maps we need, and leave off the maps we don't. Quote Link to comment
+baloo&bd
Keep in mind this is still a rumor. There has been no official word from Garmin yet. Quote Link to comment
CenTexDodger
Good point, although various members here have all pretty much received the same or similar replies from Garmin. Quote Link to comment
