Geocoin As A Prize

Recommended Posts

If I want to leave a trackable geocoin in my cache as a prize for the person who finds it, should I first activate it myself or just leave it unactivated for the person to find it to do so?

In my opinion...

Prize -- unactivated, they do with it whatever they want.

Travelbug -- already activated.

An unactivated travel bug or geocoin is more attractive...they can be the owner or keep it if it's unique. Otherwise, it would be just like finding another TB or GC to move along.

Prize=Unactivated in my 2 cents.

Unactivated. I've only place one cache so far (Hey! I'm new....) but I left an unactivated TB Dog Tag as a FTF prize. If it's already activated then it isn't really a "prize" for the finder.

Here's the morality question:

Do you write down the number before leaving it, so that once it's activated, you can log it?

Well, do ya? :lol:

Yes (write down the number) and no (don't log it).

No, I didn't even think of that. I agree with the poster who said it might have been a good idea to write it down so I could track the thing later but it's no biggie. I can always ask the cacher who found it to let me know when they release the bug. Besides that it will likely be released locally and I can go find the thing and then keep track of it that way after making a legitimate find.

I have no interest in logging a bug I didn't actually find.
