More Changes On Gc.com

Recommended Posts

Groundspeak have introduced more changes onto GC.com, although I probably haven't seen them all yet, most appear to be beneficial.

One that I am wondering about is cache pages having bookmark lists that are on advertised on the page!

This cache has two bookmark lists advertised on it's page. What I am wondering is can others see these bookmarks. Both bookmarks belong to me, any other caches that are on my bookmark lists I can see the bookmark advertised on the cache page, but I don't know if other people can see it or not.

So feedback would be appreciated please.

You can also use this thread to talk about the changes?

Yours was the second one i looked at after my own and i can not see your bookmark list on the silver thread cache. Have a look at this cache its listed on two of my bookmark lists.

Three threads now on the changes all on the front page of this forum.

Nope I can't see the bookmarks on that list either.

Wouldn't it be good that if you had a bookmark list ticked for public viewing that it would get advertised on the cache page just like your own one.

Sorry for starting a new topic on the changes, hadn't noticed them probably due to titles.

I suppose we can just talk about the bookmarks on here then??

Here's how this works....

The link back to a bookmark list from a cache page is controlled by the list owner. Go into a list in "edit" mode, and there's an option...

"Make this list public (show on bookmarked listings)"

We now have two different concepts: "sharing" the list, and "making it public". When the changes first came out, this "public" option was enabled by default. Now it isn't, so each list owner will have to go and check it if they want that facility to work.

Hope that makes sense.

Hmm how long will it be until we a see a bookmark list titled my 10 worst caches or puzzle caches i have solved i hope they put a report this bookmark listing option in there somewhere. More work for the reviewers i think

I had already thought about that option, you could get your own back by making one up yourself, and putting that persons caches on it??

I think a report button would be good, when they first came out, i had feedback calling myself a hypocrit, true or not, I think it wasn't a nice thing to put on as feedback. I ended up deleting that whole list, mainly due to that feedback B)

I already have a list of "Lame Holiday Caches in Ireland" but it was withdrawn from share, after peer pressure on another forum.

Apparently people felt that it wasn't fair to single out lame holiday caches, just because they were holiday caches and, er... lame.

There's some new HCs appearing in Ireland recently (after a welcome absence) so I'm thinking of reinstating the bookmark list, now...

I'ld be delighted to discuss this with you if you get in touch with me privately. As far as I am aware I have not let a Holiday Cache fly free in Ireland for some time, and if one has crept past it needs addressing.

Thankyou,

Eckington

By all means, if you wish.

However, my beef is not with those who review such caches - it's with those people who place them in the first place.

I believe its a good idea, but the bookmark list has already obscured the graphics on this listing link

That only happens when you (the owner) view the listing, because of the extra owner-specific fields further up the page.

The rest of us see it correctly. B)

(Nice excuse for a cache advert though - I'll add it to my forthcoming list of "Ways To Advertise Your Own Cache on the Forums and Get Away With It.")
