+TeamAO
We have a local "Log Troll". A cacher seems to find caches, or not find them in some cases, and rip them up in the logs. This cacher has well passed his "newbie stage" and is just out there to stir things up. Many local cachers have emailed him about the problems, and he'll fix some of the logs, but everyday I look through the recently found locals, and they're on there somewhere telling people how bad the cache is and why it's dangerous or this or that. What stirred me up is that I recieved an "accidental" email from the cacher, swearing about another local hider and mostly just "trolling" garbage that is meant to stir cachers up. What should I do about this nonsense? Quote Link to comment
+New England n00b
1) Ignore it and them and hope they grow up 2) If it is abusive, mebbe 'contact at geocaching dot com' 3) If your cache is affected, discuss the situation as non-confrontationally as possible. maybe the don;t see what they are doing the same way others do. 4) Hire an assasin. Could present certain legal consequences. /#4 is a joke, people... Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
Ignore them. There is also a game you can play if you have their angle. It's to be their anti. Whatever they say, do, or be is a game and just by living you are their antidote. They hate that but can't do anything about it. That's a hard game to play though. It's usually just easier to ignore them. Quote Link to comment
+whistler & co.
Some people have a negative outlook on life, and you wonder why they do anything (like caching) at all if they hate it so much! Unless there are serious problems with a cache (rare), we always have something positive to say in our logs. Ignore the meanie...maybe he'll get bored and go on to slam someone else's hobby! Or, perhaps the next person to log immediately after the Troll can address the very issues he complains about and explain why he/she DIDN'T think they were problematic. Quote Link to comment
+Old Bill
Or, perhaps the next person to log immediately after the Troll can address the very issues he complains about and explain why he/she DIDN'T think they were problematic. Bingo! Organize a few of the other cachers to go out immediately after this cretin logs a poor view, and totally counter him by visiting the cache and essentially saying that everything he's whining about is backwards and you have no clue what he's talking about. Get enough of those, and he may realize that he's outnumbered. At the very least, you'll get his comments buried in the logs where they'll be much less likely to be noticed. IMHO, ignoring him is like finding a bunch of trash at the cachesite and just leaving it. It will only affect future cachers if nothing is done about it. +Team_Fitz
Sounds just like a few people that used to jam our local amateur radio repeaters. Guys in mid life crisis that are not happy in life and just want others to be just as miserable. That went on for several years with one of the offenders going to jail and paying big fines. It did get better after the FCC and local law enforcement got involved but what a way to spend your time and money. Ignore and they will most likely move on to other things when they can't get a rise out of anyone. Quote Link to comment
+AuntieWeasel
It's worth mentioning that, no matter what you do, a person bent on making people miserable will often succeed. Sometimes, there isn't a good approach. Quote Link to comment
bogleman
Complete amature crybaby, ignore them they will get bored at some point and things will trail off. Why wast your time writing a whining log, it is like you are personally insulting them. If this person is that miserable why continue going after the caches? I guess it gives them something to do that makes them feel better. Quote Link to comment

I spent 2 hours looking for this micro, and spent 20 minutes talking to a policeman (who actually found it) Quote Link to comment
+Sue Gremlin
We found such a log yesterday. There were two entries from the same person on different days complaining about the cheap cr*p in the cache, and whining about people not putting better stuff in it. They came back? Twice? These people need to get a life. Quote Link to comment
+Yamahammer
You could stoop to their level and find some of their caches and talk smack about it, however I don't encourage that. ... or write a note on the logs behind his and talk about your experience with the cache. ... or ignore it. Some people are morons. (Present company excluded). Quote Link to comment
+reveritt
Just ignore it. Quote Link to comment
+Tzoid
Trolls should not be fed. Quote Link to comment
+Team Perks
Makes you wonder why they keep finding caches, if they're all so #@$*ing awful. Quote Link to comment
+badlands
It makes for entertaining reading. Besides, it only takes a couple of reads and the other cachers will soon ignore anything that person says. Edited September 27, 2005 by badlands Quote Link to comment
+carleenp
Ignore, or be amused by their angst. Either works good for you. Might not stop them, but you won't care then because you will be ignoring or be amused. Works well for me on such things! Quote Link to comment
+dogbreathcanada
Just report the trolling to Hydee. She'll deal with it. I'm quite familiar with the results, having been someone who trolled a particular cache in my area. Quote Link to comment
nobby.nobbs
ignore it and feel sorry for them for not getting as much out of the hobby as the rest of us do. Quote Link to comment
