+MotorBug
Let's vote on WM with smilies. Maybe TPTB will get an idea if WM is like New Coke or is it really better than sliced bread. = New Coke = Better than sliced bread = Jury is still out = What, me vote? = Anything Jeremy wants = Let's fix GC first = Get Over It (by Jeremy) = The world is ending I'll start. (Smilies only please. Log your text opinion elsewhere.) --------------------------------------------------------------- From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: New Coke, renamed Coke II in 1992, was the sweeter drink introduced in 1985 by The Coca-Cola Company to replace its flagship soda, Coca-Cola. Public reaction was devastating, and the new cola quickly entered the pantheon of major marketing flops. However, the subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula led to a significant gain in sales, which some theorize was the original purpose all along. +tls11823
I heard a theory that they wanted to slightly change the formula for Coke to use cheaper ingredients, but they knew people would notice the difference. So they pulled the original out of circulation for a while, waited for the anticipated uproar, then "brought back" the "original" formula. After time away, people didn't notice the slight difference. This is the closest thing to a reasonable explanation that I've heard for changing one of the single most successful products in the history of mankind. Oh, and by the way, I don't think you're going to stop this train, so you might as well get off or ride along. Link to comment
+The Leprechauns
Thanks for reminding us why the option to start a poll was removed from the forums. So what's your smilie? I was thinking of using one which recently appeared very near the "Signal Playing the Violin" in a different thread. But Jeremy would get mad at me if I did, and I don't want to lose my view of Mopar's feet. Link to comment

+Tsegi Mike and Desert Viking
Im having fun so far. It may not be perfect. There are some small things I could wish for with it. Yet, Mike and I are enjoying Waymarking. I expect it will be a regular part of our recreational lives like geocaching. Thanks Jeremy et al, Im happy. Link to comment
+budd-rdc
(translation - cautiously optimistic) As for the New Coke fiasco decades ago.... marketing dweeb mistake consumers' taste buds insulted CEO panic story of "it was all planned" conspiracy to cover up the incompetence. Coca Cola "red helicopter" whisking me away I think the root of the fiasco was when the "sweeter" Pepsi was gaining market share quicker than Coke was comfortable with, and they panicked. +qichina
- stupid idea - sort out GC functionality - tacky commercialism - down with the thought police! & keep GC & WM funding + subs separate - either - reduce GC subs and top up with separate WM sub for those who want it. or - use all of $30 to develop GC. +welch
I'd like to write in Robo cop for sheriff (also If text was allowed I'd say you should wait till WM gets up and swinging before you make a final decision if it sucks and how much, not that you have much choice locationless are getting archived anyways, but still its like self fulling propency...) +tozainamboku
:) More flavors. I'll probably stick to chocolate and vanilla most of the time, but I can come here for my strawberry fix since I won't be able to get that at the other store anymore. But I'm really excited by all the new flavors like Cherries Garcia and Karamel Sutra. (BTW, I vote yes for the Ben and Jerry's category ) Link to comment

Coca Cola "red helicopter" whisking me away I think the root of the fiasco was when the "sweeter" Pepsi was gaining market share quicker than Coke was comfortable with, and they panicked. I thought the new coke fiasco stemmed from the diet wars and the resulting adverse effect coke's own product was having on sales of regular coke. Diet coke was very successful but regular coke was losing marketshare [not only to competitors like Pepsi but] to its own diet version. Most diet drinks use the same starting formula as the originals, replace the sugar with artificial sweetener and then fine tune to try to get it close to the original version. Diet Coke, however, was not done this way. They used a completely different formula separate from the original coke. "New" Coke was supposed to be a non-diet version of the very successful Diet Coke. +Tsegi Mike and Desert Viking
New coke was just plain bad. I hoarded cases of old coke. I was down to my last 6 pack when they brought coke classic out. Coke lost millions. This was a bad idea for them. New coke has nothing to do with Waymarking or geocaching. No comparison at all.
