+BigWhiteTruck
Did you ever drive to the parking spot, then use your GPS to get a bearing and distance to the cache site, leave the gps in the car or your pocket and try to find the cache using your trusty compass? I´ve done it one time when the cache was only a couple hundred feet away across an open field. I´d like to try it over longer distances and through heavier cover, like woods. Has anyone ever tried this? And if so, how did you like it? Anything unexpected/surprising happen? Quote Link to comment
+webscouter.
Waldenrun has done most of his 2000+ caches without a GPS at all http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=04...8a-e9b0414bcd55 Quote Link to comment
Tahosa and Sons
When I hide one it takes some compass skills to even find one. And I've found many of them without the GPS, just a map and compass will work fine for me. Quote Link to comment
+Shifty
Or there's even Edscott, who has 575 finds and has used a GPS for none of them. Just plain old orienteering. http://www.geocaching.com/profile/Default....bd-846f28ddcb36 Quote Link to comment

+Mule Ears
On a puzzle cache that (ironically, it turns out) presented a map-and-compass problem, I miscalculated the result at home. When I arrived at the cache site I realized my mistake and used my compass to apply the correction. This turned out to be a lot quicker than inputting the data to 'project a waypoint' from the erroneous position. Quote Link to comment
Dinoprophet
I've found a couple easy ones without a GPS or a compass. One, I had been to the area once with a no find. After reading the clue, I returned to the site sans GPS and found it. In another case, I looked at the topo map online. There were a couple of key features that made it easy to find.
