Pengy&Tigger Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 In a bid to come up with an event that's a little bit different, we've stumbled on this idea for a North West event. For those that can't be bothered reading the link, it's basically an adventure day (2 hours) in the forest, climbing and swinging in the trees on a forest assault course. We were thinking of a weekend in August. Prices are £18 for adults (Gorillas) and £13 for 10-17 year olds (Baboons). There's also a campsite nearby. Any interest? Quote
House Of Boo Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Ourselves and (I think) a certain "Rutson" would be well and truly up for this.. gives me an excuse to find a certain elusive and annoying cache as well as hooking up with the Pengy & Tigster twice in the year!!! House Of Ooooh Rope Swings!!! Quote
lordelph Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 A geocaching swinging party? Ding dong! It does look like fun though...might be a good excuse to take the whole family up to the lakes! Quote
The Cache Hoppers Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 (edited) We're planning on going camping up that way sometime during the summer. Would be good to fit it in around this .... just let us know when! A geocaching swinging party? Ding dong! You are so naughty Lordelph! Edited June 15, 2005 by The Cache Hoppers Quote
rutson Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 We saw that at the weekend We were going to organise an event at one of the others, bearing mind it might be considered 'commercial' Quote
powerbook_fanatic Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 I don't think I could even bear to watch ... The whole idea fills me with horror - camping AND heights ? Any pubs nearby ? Malcolm - The Powerbook Fanatic Quote
Pengy&Tigger Posted June 16, 2005 Author Posted June 16, 2005 bearing mind it might be considered 'commercial' It can't be any more commercial than a pub/ train/ferry?? Quote
S&G.Davison Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Maybe even a multi co-ordinated event - one at each of the Go Ape sites. The one in Bracknell Forest looks good. Sue Quote
Kitty Hawk Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 There's one down here at Moors Valley for us South Coast Folk. Quote
Brenin Tegeingl Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 bearing mind it might be considered 'commercial' It can't be any more commercial than a pub/ train/ferry?? The 2 train events were listed as taking place at the stations, not on the trains so were not commercial in that you had to pay to take part, the Ferry was given special permission by Groundspeak before the event page was even submitted because it's linking UK and Irish Cachers for a event even though they considered it a commercial location, due to having to purchase a ticket to take part.. It's the fact that you have to pay to take part which is the problem with Groundspeak. I've sent you 2 a email with a suggestion. Dave Quote
Pengy&Tigger Posted June 16, 2005 Author Posted June 16, 2005 You don't have to pay to log the event! Non swinging cachers are welcome to camp and we were thinking of having a picnic or BBQ afterwards anyway. It's not even listed yet, and people are already picking holes in it Quote
foxy04 Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 i didn't know that you lot met up!!!! where can i find the details of these meets? foxy Quote
rutson Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 i didn't know that you lot met up!!!! where can i find the details of these meets? foxy Look here. Quote
Alibags Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Looks cool. I too would be more able to attend (cruel economics) if there was a parallel event for us soft shandy sipping southerners at somewhere like Bracknell. Quote
Pengy&Tigger Posted June 16, 2005 Author Posted June 16, 2005 There seems to be enough interest in having a Southern event too. The question is, do we have them on the same day? I'm sure there are a few people mental enough to want to attend both. Quote
rutson Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Hmmm..... I wonder who's daft enought to do that Quote
foxy04 Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 please let me know when this event is due to ahhpen as i would love to attend Quote
lathama Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 doing outdoor rec at uni at the moment - this looks SO cool!!!! I just wouldnt want to show anyone up! Quote
MarcB Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 I've been to a GoApe on a SimonG excursion, it's great fun, not as hard as it looks but will leave you aching for days after! MarcB Quote
The Hungry Caterpillars Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 What a great idea We were totally hacked off that we could not make the Camping Event but we go up into the Lakes a lot and would probably manage to get up in August. Can the non-swingers come and watch-and take photos? Quote
alma Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 depending which date it is we would be very interested in the north west one been before EXCELLENT Quote
HazelS Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I'd love to watch .... dunno about having a go myself!! My sister in law lives nearby, so good excuse to go over! Quote
Pengy&Tigger Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 Just to update folks - We're thinking 20th August to avoid clashes with any other listed events. We're going up to Grizedale this weekend with Cave Troll and Eeyore to check out possible camp sites and picnic areas. S&G.Davison have offered to help out with organising a Bracknell version of the event, so now is the time to pipe up whether you want simultaneous events or separate ones. Also if you want to organise one in Sherwood Forest or Moors Valley then pipe up. T Quote
The Ollies Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Oh Bum. We cant make 20th August . Another good meet in the making though, by the sounds of it. Normally this would be ideal for us with the kids on hols, but we just cant make that weekend Quote
Pengy&Tigger Posted June 26, 2005 Author Posted June 26, 2005 The cache page is now up and running folks. If you want to camp then please post a note soon. We were only able to book enough space for 15 tents (no caravans I'm afraid!). As campsites are pretty busy in the middle of August, this was the only campsite in the area that will accept advance group bookings. T Quote
Cave Troll and Eeyore Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I'm the king of the swingers yea. A jungle v.i.p. It was great watching folks up in the trees at Go Ape today and we can hardly wait for August to arrive Quote
lordelph Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Oooby Do! I wanna be like youuuu! Sounds great, I've logged my interest! Quote

lordelph Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Looking forward to Go Ape, but after sorting out my "Carry on Camping" photos last night, I've discovered how Penny and Tigger managed to do 1000 caches..... ....cloning! Quote
Cave Troll and Eeyore Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Only 9 pitches left for the campsite. Quote
Seasider Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 Can't wait for this one! For those who don't want to Go Ape please note that I am planning to bag the caches which are hidden on the islands in the surrounding lakes. So if anyone fancies sharing a boat ride then let me know! I'll post a link to the relevant caches later. Cheers! Seasider Quote
Pengy&Tigger Posted July 2, 2005 Author Posted July 2, 2005 Is that Seasider I see floating around the lake, instead of swinging around in the trees. Although we did think about the ones on the lake too... Never know we may do them ones as well. Pengy Quote
The Hungry Caterpillars Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 Hot diggerty dam, we want to get to this one but work strikes again-something called clearing getting in the way. Quote
Seasider Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Is that Seasider I see floating around the lake, instead of swinging around in the trees. Although we did think about the ones on the lake too... Never know we may do them ones as well. Pengy I suppose we could do the water caches after swinging through the trees! The water caches are... Windermere Ling a long a lucky (a short swim!) Nautical But Nice (if the Gremlin girls replace it) Coniston Swallows & Amazons Anyone up ferret?! Cheers! Seasider Quote
Cave Troll and Eeyore Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Eeyore (Joan) said she would rather drown than fall out of a tree ! so we are up ferrit Mr Seasider Capn Quote
Bizarre Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Can I come too. My mum said I can go but, I've not to climb any trees. So Can I just have a tent pitch please,........away from Mattwaggie Quote

lizzardman Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 I'm on holiday...b**'@cks! I'm sure you'll have a great time! Quote
Pengy&Tigger Posted July 23, 2005 Author Posted July 23, 2005 (edited) Just trying to drum up a bit more interest for this one. In case you haven't read the cache page, it's not compulsary to take part in the tree swinging. Anyone who wants to attend for the camping/BBQ is most welcome. There are footpaths all around the Go Ape course, so there will be plenty of opportunity to point and laugh at those of us up in the trees. As the site only accepts tents and not caravans, there is another campsite close-by for caravanners. See here for details. They wouldn't allow us to make a group booking here, but they may be able to fit a few of you on if you book individually. If you are interested in the event, please post a note on the cache page. We will need to confirm numbers with the campsite and Go Ape in a couple of weeks time. Edited July 23, 2005 by Pengy&Tigger Quote
G Force Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 It sounds like it will be great fun and a good day out unfortunately I'm offshore for it. Looking at the cache page and link strongly think we will make it to Grizedale at a later date to hang about in the trees only wish it could of been for the event. Quote
Inukshuk and Arwen Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Hi guys me and lee are up for it if there's still places. best wishes Gary Quote

John Stead Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 (edited) I don't think I'm up to trees now - but I would be happy to go boating with Seasider. Will make it a day trip probably. Edited July 24, 2005 by John Stead Quote
