  1. Waterman's View (GC1AZF6) taken today in Rivington area cheers gary
  2. i too have recently been doing a bit more caching. i've been trying geoscout recently on a windows mobile device and i have to say its very impressive. i especially like the facility to connect directly to Groundspeak and import cache details including logs, extra waypoints etc and best of all you get the option to download various forms of map like googlemaps or virtual earth tiles into the software and the maps then integrate seamlessly into the software so you can switch between compass, description and map without changing application - awesome bit of ware. my trial just ran out....might have to buy it now
  3. sorry to let you all down again but i just havent been well enough to keep it going. thanks for understanding. Gary
  4. thanks for all the offers of help ! ive added some more of the old articles today and brought back the idea of having regional coordinators so if you want to be a representative for your region and are prepared to keep us updated from time to time on geocaching news and events in your region please let me know international coordinators also welcome !! in answer to one of the questions above - the mag will be as before ie a continually updated affair rather than a monthly release so in short no you wont be able to 'download' it as a printable mag. not for the time being anyway. thanks and best wishes Gary
  5. here goes.... the web address is www.gonecaching.com the new mag is going to be basic but functional my web skills haven't improved at all in the last two years.... if you can help with coding, articles, photos, reviews, news etc please let me know. thanks and best wishes Gary (please dont shoot me - i'm no journalist, web designer or anything else for that matter but i'm doing my best )
  6. well to be honest, it didn't really get handed over to anyone as such. Paul, Lordelph offered to help with hosting and redesign but never intended to take on the content side; and then things got really busy with geograph and college and family and other issues and time sorta slipped by but I'd like to give it another try and I'm sure paul will help out where he can with the new version cheers. Gary
  7. Right i know i've been out of things for one reason or another for ages now but I do want to bring the mag back in some form, it just has to happen those who remember the old mag will know my skills are pretty limited but i'll give it my best shot I think there'll have to be a new name and web address but as soon as i get some content online (probably some of the old articles first) i'll let you know. all offers of help appreciated I want to do it, i need to do it....... right i'm going in the shed to do it ! best wishes Gary
  8. i'm pretty sure BT visited a few of my old caches before they were archived and placed a little pebble inukshuk in one of them that i suspect he made himself. i swapped it out and still have it on the window ledge in my front room. i think of billy and me and my son's visit to bute everytime i look at it good luck and best wishes Billy Gary
  9. This PDA/phone is in excellent condition with no marks or scratches and comes with all original packaging, discs and manuals, charger and pc sync cable, leather case and headphones (for music while you cache!) It has to go because I need the money but I don't want to list it on ebay if i can avoid it because these tend to attract idiot bidders/scammers. Price is £300 inclusive of next day signed for postage (which seems about the going rate on ebay). The XDA exec is capable of making phone calls and browsing the web at the same time and can run tomtom, memory map etc and is great for paperless caching. heres a link to the spec sheet contact me through my profile if you are interested:) thanks and best wishes Gary
  10. Great job! I bet your kids loved seeing themselves on the telly. They'll never forget it cute dog too - daren't let my daughter see it.... Well done! Gary
  11. I got a bite on my forearm last week while doing the Culbin Sands cache on the edge of Culbin Forest. I only noticed it the following morning and only realised what it was because of the great article Forester did for the mag - thanks again! I managed to det it out by a combination of teasing with the blade of a swiss army knife and squeezing the skin either side ot the attachment to try to push it up from below - like squeezing a spot i guess. I put some antiseptic cream on it straight after removal and its pretty much completely healed up. thanks and best wishes Gary
  12. Ok have to go now - Seasider was nearest so he can pick next qn Puszcza are areas of ancient Polish woodland
  13. getting warmer - it/they are certainly areas of scientific interest but the answer i was looking for is a bit less specific and they are/were important for historical/political reasons too............
  14. not that i know of...... you can get another clue by doing a keyword search on the seek geocache page
  15. no - but i might have known seasider's guess would involve beer on the right lines with Poland though
  16. I've got a friend who used to work in that....particular art....industry!! Right then..... What is Groom Lake in Nevada better known as? Cheers! Seasider Area 51
  17. Thanks for the positive comments - we're going to at least get the old content back on line (hopefully over the next few days) and take it from there best wishes Gary
  18. I'd like to say a special thanks to Rutson: who posted a brilliant critical yet constructive note on this forum which made me realise that my first, feeble attempt to get the project off the ground via the mag site wasn't viable. That's what led me to make my plea for help. And of course to Paul and Barry who offereed to help and have put countless hours of hard work into the project. Just another example of what an amazing group of people cachers are - their generosity in offering help and support and their astonishing technical abilities thanks and best wishes Gary
  19. I've got the option to renew the geocachingtoday domain name for another year and with a long and hopefully hot summer on my hands I was wondering if there would be any support for the old online magazine? those who know me are aware that my technical web skills aren't that great and that i have a few personal problems that limit me from time to time so I'd need all the support I can get in terms of contributors and techie help All the old articles are still safe and so i'm sure we'd have a good head start. If there's enough interest and out there i'm prepared to get it back on line and see how it goes. comments appreciated thanks and best wishes Gary
