Fantastic_Four
Hi, all! Brand new to Geocaching and gps units. I have a standard yellow Etrex. The software version is 2.14. The Garmin website has a download for both 2.14 AND 3.30. What is the difference in the software versions? More features? Better performance? Why would they have both the 2.14 and the 3.30? Thanks in advance for your input. Update: Ok, I get it. This is a typo on Garmin's part. The 3.00 software is for the other Etrex's NOT ol' yellow. Sorry for showing my ignorance!! +briansnat
Actually 3.3 is for the yellow eTrex, the Summit and Camo from what I can see - but only if it has 3.0. As I understand things, some newer yellows are shipping with 3.0. I read somewhere that there are some hardware differences in these newer units and the older units are not compatible with 3.0 and above. Its not ignorance. Actually its a bit confusing. uber_bike_geek
Of what I understand, those shipping with >3.0 have WAAS capabilties, those <3.0 don't have WAAS... and therefore aren't compatible with >3.0 Happy caching Jeff Quote Link to comment
+reeloy&ash
I just picked up a standard yellow eTrex a week ago, pre-loaded with v3.2 firmware...this is straight from Garmin's website about the changes from v3.0 to v3.3, Changes made from version 3.00 to 3.30: * Corrected RTCM support. * Corrected ability for NMEA support of $HCHDG sentence (Summit only). * Improved WAAS visibility and satellite selection process. so I'm not sure what I have and do not have being stuck somewhere in the middle Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
You do not have to upgrade the firmware. You have the most current version for your unit. Quote Link to comment
Porkchop741
I have had my Etrex Camo for about 4 years now. I wonder if I need to download that stuff? Quote Link to comment

So, would that statement apply to my eTrex 2.14 version. Is this the latest update to this model? Can or can I not upload the 3.3 update to my 2.14? Thanks for the time. Keytag2260. No.. you can't upgrade 2.14 to 3.00 or 3.30 The new etrex models having 3.00 firmware are substantially different from the older ones in that they have WAAS capability, more routes and several new features. You can however upgrade from 3.00 to 3.30. Quote Link to comment
Porkchop741
My etrex camo shows it to be the 2.04 software version. Quote Link to comment
larryjones
How do you know which version you have? I just got a Legend, and I was trying to find the version that was on it, but didn't know where to look. Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
If your Legend is like my Vista, if you hold down the Click Stick at the same time you turn it on it will reveal a "secret" page with information not readily available from the Main Menu/System, which is another place you should be able to find the version #. larryjones
That worked ... 3.70 on mine ... and it tells you that all the buttons are working ... and a few other things too. Quote Link to comment
