Is there a trick to getting an animated gif to work on my cache page?

I thought the only pictures I could upload were stills like jpgs. But I've seen some COOL ;) cache pages with animated gifs. Is there a tutorial so I can do this? I have a gif file...just don't know how to html it into the cache page (I can do html for the other stuff, just haven't done a gif yet).

Where do I upload it?

Thanks,

Go to your profile click on "my account" then "edit profile" then scroll down to the area that says "Your avatar" or "Your Photo". Click on "change/edit" under your picture and upload your gif. Once the gif is uploaded, click on the gif so it opens up on a new page, the top of that page will be the "link " you will need for HTML purposes.

Go to your profile edit your cache page, copy the line below changing the required text and paste into your cache page

<img src="This will be the link from the top of the page">

Hope this helps, perhaps a bit confusing ;)

Best idea is to use an HTML tag to link to the picture on another site.

Something like.

<img src=http://www.mywebspace.com/animated.gif height=xxxx width=xxxx>

Indeed this is the easiest way to do it until the web site is shut down then you have an invalid link. I have had this happen, so I had to find another image then I uploaded it my profile.

Except the OP was asking about ANIMATED gifs, which the GC website photo uploads will convert to a static jpg.

So if you want an ANIMATED gif, it has to be hosted off site.

And on my pocket queries, I won't see the animation. All your hard work animating images means nothing to me. Too bad, so sad.

Have I mentioned that I don't like splashy cache pages? When the cache page is more interesting than the cache itself, you've got a problem.

??? This image is uploaded to GC.com according to the source, and it works fine. Am I missing something? It is actually my cache page so I know I had uploaded it.

That was a bit off topic.

I'll take your word that it's animated, since I have animated images turned off in my browser (due to the annoyance factor). But I bet it was uploaded quite a while ago, before the system was changed to convert everything to JPGs.

Try hosting the image elsewhere, such as at Image Shack. No cost. No watermarks. No expiration.

I don't put it on cache pages, but I initially created a free home page through my isp mostly as a place to host my animated pikachu, which I ocassionally post in the forums. Sites like the one Prime Suspect mentioned work well too.

How so? The OP is talking about adding some splash to his cache page, I'm letting him know that too much is not a good thing.

You've obviously never done one of our themed caches. :P

This note was left by an experienced cacher with well over 2,000 finds" "From the containers, to the puzzles, to the awesome final location, this was one of my favorite caches ever." Was the page flashy? No animations, but pictures galore, yes.

The flashiness doesn't necessarily stop at the cache page. If you don't see the gifs on your palm pilot, I'm okay with that.

Based on Waldenrun's pictures, your cache page isn't too splashy for your cache.

Do you remember when Star Wars Episode I came out? How much was it hyped? How good was the movie?

How about "Batman" with Michael Keaton? Remember the hype? Remember the movie?

The hype should never outdo the feature, cache pages included.
