Welcome! As for tips:

5. Don't expect the GPS to take you right to the cache.

4. Get EasyGPS, or Geocaching Swiss Army Knife to manage your waypoints and load them directly to your unit.

3. Mark the wappoint of your car before heading out for a cache.

2. In the summer get the gallon sized bottle of DEET

1. Have fun!!!!!!

6. Make sure you are carrying a walking stick or something to poke around with...don't want to end up meeting a wild critter with your hand.

7. Wear water proof boots and carry extra dry socks...cachers love to hide things near water.

8. When you realize you're addicted, become a Premium Member...queries make looking up caches everywhere you go much easier.

9. Bring extra baggies and a towel to help clean up a wet cache...it's always nice to help others.

10. Take a camera with you...you'll definately be taken to places you never knew were there and that are worth a photograph or two.

Welcome to the addiction...the forum is always here for counseling... :(

11. Get a puppy. Train it to snif out Tupperware.

12. take a spare pen/pencil with you. Often the ones in the caches are missing/broken/dull/out of ink

13. Take several trade items with you. From very small to larger items, you are then prepared for most cache sizes.

14. Print a few brochures from Here and carry them with you. You can hand them out to folks who are wondering why you are poking around in their park and acting suspiciously.

15. Find out if there is a geocaching group in your area and join in. Geocaching with others is fun and they will teach you the ropes.

When scrounging for that well camo'd micro in the bushes keep repeating: "dogs do not live here....dogs do not live here....dogs do not live here" then upon returning to your vehicle pray that the next words out of your mouth are NOT, "honey, where's that spray can of Lysol?" LOL

Seriously, welcome to the game. I hope that you enjoy it as much a we do.

17. try to keep the DEET on you and don't get it on the GPS.. Mosquitos don't like plastic and plastic doesn't like deet.

18. Your walking stick doubles as an acoustic search tool so don't think it is only a walking stick.

19. For safety, cache with a partner and if you feel uncomfortable going after any particular cache, go find another and skip this one. There are plenty out there and your 6th sense can save you a lot of grief.

Welcome to the addiction.
