  1. I've used one for about a dozen trips. Haven't had any problems, even with a small spill.
  2. Looks like a super deal to me. I paid: GPS - 499.00, Car mount - 30.00, SD Card - 50.00, and software - 100.00, for a total of 679.00 ... of course that was a while back.... I'd go for it if didn't already have mine!
  3. Actually it is more economical to purchase it in 55 Gallon drums! A barrel will last you about a week here in Maine!

I use my favorite hiking Lumbar Combo pack from LL Bean (cat # KE47375) 900 cu in. Sort of an oversized waist pack with shoulder harness. Holds two 32 oz water bottles and all the gear you'd need for a day hike. Has lots of pockets and compartments to keep your gear seperated for quick retrieval. Very comfortable to wear all day and will carry lots of gear and trade items for those multi-cache outings. Not a bad price either, was only around $35.
  5. I picked up a book on GPS use to get some tips on using it while hiking. It mentioned Geo-caching so I looked it up on the internet and then I was hooked. Only got a few at the end of last summer but now I can hardly wait till winter is over as many of the hiking spots I love to go have caches on them or nearby. can't believe how many I've walked by!
  6. Ahh .... do you have any Magellan versions? (Just kidding)......it really looks great... I could probably cover up that ugly little blue thing on it.... (just kidding)...... I got me a few Garmins as well.....
  7. I like a 2-3 mile hike on an average with an ocasional longer one time permitting.
  8. There have been alot of good ones here, really hard to pick. I've fallen out of my chair twice on the first page alone! But I gotta say this is my favorite!
  9. I've purchased a garmin fortrex 101 and accessories. Have shipped quickly and no problems. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again in the future.
  10. Love my foretrex 101, has never lost a signal in heavy tree cover. Only thing keeping it from being perfect is a color screen and map capabilities! Gets good life out of batteries. I use it alot with my bike and hiking mostly but has worked well with the first couple of caches too! I don't think you'll be unhappy with this unit at all! Good luck!
  11. I have several map programs but probably my favorite is Delorme Topo USA. Has good detail and includes many trails. I always pack a map & compass for a backup in case the GPS fails and like to trace my location on the map as I go along also makes it easy to identify lakes and other mountains from the views. Can sometimes find alternative routes to the cache or back to the car. I always carry them in a waterproof pouch just in case it rains..... nothing worse than trying to find your way out of the woods with a map that is quickly vanishing in the rain... l
  12. Have a Garmin 60CS (recent purchase 2 wks), Fortrex 101, and Forunner 101 (6mths) as well as a Magellan Meridian Color (1.5 yrs) and Colortrak (2 yrs). Use the Meridian color more in the car now as too big & awkward to carry around and uses alot of battery power hiking (wanted the sport track color model but store was all out when I got there so took the Meridian rather than waiting a few weeks for another shipment) Just recently purchased the Garmin 60CS as seemed to have good battery life & geo-cache features for a color unit from reviews and other threads. Find good quality from both Magellan & Garmin products, each unit has their good points and not so good points. I admit my gadget addition but also need several units as family members always seems to be out with one or another and I'm usually left holding a compass on the hiking or biking trails........
  13. Currently own a Garmin 60CS and Fortrex 101 (wristgps) and Forerunner 101 (wristgps for running). Love all of them but would highly recommend the 60CS.
  14. I own both the Magellan Meridian Color and the Garmin 60CS. I’ve had the Meridian Color for about a year or so and only got the Garmin 60CS about a week ago. You can read all the specs on the web of all the features so I’ll just give you some impressions I have of both units. The Meridian is a good unit, has always been reliable, even in heavy wooded area. Both seem to get the signal fairly quickly although the Garmin seems a little faster. The Meridian is great as the larger screen and bigger buttons seem easier to use while driving. The Meridian is larger and more awkward to carry while hiking (if you have small hands). Battery life is not super, seems like I’m always putting new batteries in when I go out for a hike. I liked the Garmin’s size and compass features although the buttons are smaller and were harder to use at first (I have small hands and fat fingers) but I soon got use to them. Since I’ve only recently started Geo-caching, I like those added features on the Garmin unit as well. Both are excellent units and have very clear screens. The Garmin has many color options for the screen which makes it easy to customize in different lighting conditions. Entering waypoints are fairly easy for both and they each have more options on the screen than I would ever use. But if I had to keep only one, I think I would stick with the Garmin 60CS, for size, features, and battery life. I use the Meridian in the car and as a backup unit now unless my daughter goes out geo-caching with me.
  15. Love it.... putting it down on my Christmas list! Do think it's a little bias to those rubbermaid fans though..... maybe you could include one for this bunch?
