HangnMoss
Wow, I made a spike I'm so proud of my home-built machines. I added three PCs to the mix and more than doubled the daily output for the Geocaching group. I've only been running since late evening on the 6th. I'm eagerly waiting the next team update... +Jennifer&Dean
I know what you mean, my secondary pc had been offline since last june, was just waiting there with stuff to send but unable to send it. I discovered the issue, got it working yesterday and Boy did it take off! A little goes a long way, thanks for joining the group! -J Edited February 8, 2007 by Jennifer&Dean Quote Link to comment

welch
If you like me and haven't been paying attention to the newsletters the wcg sends out, they are moving away the UD devices and toward the BOINC ones. So some (like me) may need to download the new device.... Otherwise they'll send you a nice email: You are seeing this message because you have recently returned a result from a computer with the United Devices (UD) version of the World Community Grid software. As announced here, World Community Grid is not going to make any future research projects available for the UD version of the software, and plans to stop sending work units to computers with the UD software by June 30, 2008. Please update your software to the BOINC version of our software at your earliest convenience. You can go here to get the new software. Quote Link to comment

FireRef
Just one note on this...I did folding@home for a while until I had access to a wattmeter - the power consumption of my computer skyrocketed (like 3x) when "idle" - it will add some to your power bill. Just FYI... Quote Link to comment
J-Way
Just an update on current statistics: Geocaching Team: Current Members 42 (#527) Retired Members 2 All-Time Members 44 Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 25:358:00:56:38 (#486) Points Generated (Rank) 8,175,361 (#553) Results Returned (Rank) 23,623 (#589) Terracaching Team: Current Members 76 (#289) Retired Members 3 All-Time Members 79 Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 62:059:10:34:04 (#214) Points Generated (Rank) 22,906,615 (#216) Results Returned (Rank) 65,521 (#226) J-Way: Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 1:266:18:24:05 (#16,651) Points Generated (Rank) 531,121 (#18,515) Results Returned (Rank) 1,384 (#23,140) Although now that I've hit half a million Points I've stopped running my laptop full time, and I may also stop running my desktop full-time for the summer. FireRef is right, running this program in the background WILL increase your electric bill, both through direct electricity usage and through increased AC run time because of the CPU heat. Especially if you go from running your computer a few hours a day to 24/7 constant 80% CPU activity. Quote Link to comment
welch
Which is why I've been having it run as a screen saver for more than the last year Quote Link to comment
