+Daddy Oh No
I have a 60CS along with the TOPO USA maps. The background color of the maps is black. The ground is black and the water is dark blue. Is there a way to make the ground color green? The package the GPS came in shows a green background that looks like a topo map? Other than that I've got the unit pretty well figured out. Much more advanced than the Eagle Explorer this unit replaces. Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
One obvious question. What time of day did you check the colors? The 60s will change background color based on day/night with the darker colors at night. I have not tried with my 60c, but I think that is user changeable. Quote Link to comment
+jollybgood
Yep, sounds like you are in night mode. Quote Link to comment
+Daddy Oh No
I've tried it with both day and night mode, I usually just leave it on the auto position. The map colors still show black, not that nice green color like on the outside of the box. If it's user selectable, I haven't found it. Anyone else know? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+greengolftee87
go to main menu - setup - display make sure daytime color scheme is set to diamond and night time set to saphire, thats the original factory setting. Quote Link to comment
CenTexDodger
Or turn it to "daytime" instead of auto. That way your map colors will always be the same. If you have it in night mode, your map will turn black no matter what color scheme you have selected Quote Link to comment
+Daddy Oh No
OK, I set it up for Diamond and Emerald for day and night operation and set it to day, but the map still shows brown for the land features. Is there a way to get it to show green? Quote Link to comment
+Klatch
Check out the Mapsource viewer on the Garmin website. Mapsource viewer Correction: After looking more carefully at areas in Pennsylvania that I am familiar with, the background is almost all tan/brown except for scattered green areas that may be State Forests or Gamelands. They weren't labeled, so I can't be sure. It does appear, in PA at least, the primary background color is tan. Edited December 10, 2004 by Klatch Quote Link to comment
+Daddy Oh No
You're right! It looks like most topo background is tan, and the state/federal parks are green. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
campermama
daddy oh no, I just bought the 60CS and I am not looking to possibly buy the topo sw. How do you like it? I ride a quad in the desert and am wondering if it would show the riding trails? What do you think? Also how do you like the Garmin? Thanks!! Quote Link to comment

+Daddy Oh No
I love the 60CS, it is very easy to use with very intuitive operation. It picks up the signals very quickly, even in heavy tree cover. I'm new to geocaching, but this thing is ideal for that too. The topo USA is very good. It shows most of the major trails and roads. The labels are easy to read. The detail and resolution is not what you'll see in a USGS 7.5' paper map, but it's still pretty good. I'm very happy with it. Quote Link to comment
+GeoSar
I bought Topo in hopes to use it with trails and it was a big let down it only shows about 1 out of every 10 trails at least in my state Florida I would have do give it a failing grade Just my 2.5 cents GeoSar Quote Link to comment
+Daddy Oh No
Unfortunately, the USA Topo is the best resolution that's possible. The only thing better is the state/national parks topo which is the same as USGS 7.5 minute, but that is only a limited area. I wish they could come up with 7.5 maps on a state by state basis like the Maptech products. Quote Link to comment
