  1. What I really wish for is a mapsource topo that uses the USGS 7.5' format like Maptech. That way I wouldn't have to switch between formats. There is a real need for this. I know this is available for national parks, but why not for everywhere?
  2. Thanks Rich, That's a good idea, I'll post on Maptech's website forum.
  3. Lots of smart folks here, does anyone have an idea about this?
  4. I use Mapsource Topo and Terrain Navigator with my Garmin 60cs. The GPS transfers the waypoint symbols no problem into Mapsource, but not into TN. If I send geocache locations with the correct symbol to TN it treats it like any waypoint and just uses the default symbol. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it a limitation to the software? The Maptech website was no help at all. Thanks!
  5. Can anyone tell me how to change the default symbol for making waypoints. I must have changed it somehow since it now always uses the geocache symbol and I'd like it to be different. Thanks for any help you can give.
  6. I use my 60CS mainly for off road hunting, fishing, etc. I have the Mapsource Topo map product. I wish this was available in 1:24,000 scale instead of the rather large 1:100000 scale. I know the national parks are available in 1:24,000 scale, but around where I live, it isn't.
  7. Laura, Next time i buy a car would you come with me?
  8. If you were using the lithium batteries, what setting for battery selection would you pick on a 60CS? The only two choices are Alkalie and NiMh.
  9. I bought my Garmin 60CS from them. Very fast shipping and a great price!
  10. I've had my 60cs for a few weeks now and I really love it. I noticed though on the odometer screen, the maximum speed recorded is way off. Anyone else have this happen or have explaination?
  11. The MapTech topo series are 1:24,000 scale, and identical to the USGS maps. I believe these are the most detailed maps available for topo use. they are available state to state. I have the Garmin 60CS along with MapTech for NH, and it works great for transfering both waypoints and tracks. And no, I don't own stock in MapTech!
  12. Unfortunately, the USA Topo is the best resolution that's possible. The only thing better is the state/national parks topo which is the same as USGS 7.5 minute, but that is only a limited area. I wish they could come up with 7.5 maps on a state by state basis like the Maptech products.
  13. Thanks for all the help. The way I fixed it was to use the serial port to send the waypoints to Easygps. Then I connected up the USB, changed the preferences to default to the USB, and I copied the waypoints back from Easygps to the 60CS. It worked. Know I can use the USB exclusively to transfer back and forth. Not sure what the real problem was, but it went away. That USB sure is fast!
  14. i have no problem with transfering data using a serial port, but when I try to transfer data with the USB cable a few waypoints will transfer then it stops and gives an error#22. I have the latest GPS firmware and Easygps versions. I emailed Easygps and they suggested running without anything else in the background. That didn't help. I also tried it on my laptop, with the same result. Anyone else have this happen?
  15. I love the 60CS, it is very easy to use with very intuitive operation. It picks up the signals very quickly, even in heavy tree cover. I'm new to geocaching, but this thing is ideal for that too. The topo USA is very good. It shows most of the major trails and roads. The labels are easy to read. The detail and resolution is not what you'll see in a USGS 7.5' paper map, but it's still pretty good. I'm very happy with it.
  16. You're right! It looks like most topo background is tan, and the state/federal parks are green. Thanks!
  17. OK, I set it up for Diamond and Emerald for day and night operation and set it to day, but the map still shows brown for the land features. Is there a way to get it to show green?
  18. I've tried it with both day and night mode, I usually just leave it on the auto position. The map colors still show black, not that nice green color like on the outside of the box. If it's user selectable, I haven't found it. Anyone else know? Thanks!
  19. I have a 60CS along with the TOPO USA maps. The background color of the maps is black. The ground is black and the water is dark blue. Is there a way to make the ground color green? The package the GPS came in shows a green background that looks like a topo map? Other than that I've got the unit pretty well figured out. Much more advanced than the Eagle Explorer this unit replaces.
