+lakedawgs
HI, I just upgraded from an eTrex Yellow to a 60C. Love the 60C, great unit, but the accuracy does not seem to be any better than my old Yellow. In fact I don't think its as good, and I have not even made it to the woods yet. Seems to be 50-500' away from know waypoints. Have had the unit for a couple of weeks, used it a lot. Initially I set it outside in the clear for about 30 minutes to get a strong signal lock. Anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to delete the basemap info and let it reaquire, I think Magellans can do this. Thanks, Lakedawgs Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
The base map is not very accurate. Don't rely on that for anything! The best way to check accuracy is to go to a known point such as a benchmark and check the coords of both. I have found with my 60c that it is much better in the woods than my old yellow due to the better antenna. Quote Link to comment
nobby.nobbs
been using my new 60c and have found it more consistent than better accuracy. any better than 8ft or so not needed as the cache was prob placed at less accuracy! the 60c keeps tracking in the trees and so on and that's more important in my book. +JHutch
Upgraded from Legend to 60C about 6 months ago. I have found it MUCH more accurate than the Legend (it has a great antenna system). Love it! Edited October 14, 2004 by JHutch Quote Link to comment
+lakedawgs
I went ahead and returned the unit for another one and it seems much more accurate. Great GPSr. Thanks, Lakedawgs Quote Link to comment
+lensgrabber
My 60cs (not 60c) is *very* accurate. I've been out with a yellow etrex side by side and am amazed at the difference. I have only had two times where the compass was all over the place and I'm not sure it was the GPS' fault. The etrex venture and etrex (yellow) were all misguided as well (but much more so than the 60cs). Quote Link to comment
+lakedawgs
The 60C and 60CS are the same unit as far as accuracy goes, as far as I know. I agree, my 60C blows away my old eTrex Yellow. The Yellow is a great starter unit, but pales in comparison to the 60C Lakedawgs Quote Link to comment
+Night Stalker
My first 60Cs was awful. After talking to fellow 60 owners I returned it to Garmin. They checked it out and confirmed that it was defective. They sent me a new one under warranty. The new one works great. Quote Link to comment
