+douglouse & geocache jeremy
Hi We are off to Dublin for a few day's in October., and have a few questions; Whats the caching like?has anybody done much in the city? Are there any maps, similar to Memory Map available? Many thanks Douglouse Quote Link to comment
markandlynn
We did europes first and missed doing one near to the ferry port. Europes first was of good quality and a great spot even if we did climb a hill we did not need to . Area looks good and the cache descriptions and logs are good. Unfortunatley that was the only one we did near Dublin but if the others we visited in Ireland are anything to go by they were all excellent. Quote Link to comment
+harrogate hunters
I went to Dublin in late July (only for 24 hour birthday stint !) but did manage to grab 3 finds and 1 no find. I was without transport, and only having 24 hours in the city, does not give much scope for investigating public transport. All the finds I had were virtuals, which are all easy to grab by foot from the centre, the only non find was a traditional box Iveagh Cache, which unfortunatly went missing, and has still not been replaced (again walking distance). If you e-mail the owner, he might replace for you, he was planning to. Its a great park, and worth a visit. By the way if you have not been to Dublin before, try the Viking Tours.... They start from one of the two cathedrals, 1 1/2 hours by amphibous vehicles.... 1 hour by land 'typical city tour' and then you take to the water..... great fun, and also a chance to shout at the locals, as you have to act as Vikings. We (and my 8 year old) had great fun.... Book before hand it fills up. We were lucky... contact the Dublin tourist board for tel number. If you had transport there are quite a number of other caches avaliable. Use the GCUK interactive map facility..... I know it does not print the outline for Ireland, but it still comes up with a range of 'blue dots' which at least you can see all together graphically the no of caches within dublin. Any other help.... send me an e-mail Harrogate Hunters Quote Link to comment
+klaus23
There's a good few in Dublin city and county, and even more to the immediate south of Dublin in the Wicklow mountains. If you go to the GCE388 (Stiffy By The Liffey) virtual, which is in the very centre of Dublin, and search for all nearby caches, you'll notice that there are four virtuals and one webcam cache in the city centre. Of these, I would really really recommend the Southside Pub Crawl cache - it'll take up an evening, and you will enjoy it! After these caches, you'll either need a car or public transport. There's a TB hotel at the Airport, and if you're feeling adventurous you could take the DART (commuter train) south towards Dun Laoghaire (ferryport). There's several caches on the way there (Blackrock Cache, Europe's First, Dun Laoghaire cache). Or there's also some on Howth head to the North of the city. For a good day out I would recommend heading south into Wicklow. There's some nice caches there too. To be honest, you would be better off getting in touch with a Dublin cacher (and good friend of mine) called Bootle. You can contact him through bootle@geocachingireland.com. It would also be good to know if you are renting a car or depending on public transport. Quote Link to comment
+Chris&MaryB
Make sure you do 'The Phoenix'. It's easily walkable from the city centre. Quote Link to comment
+Bootle
ah yes, the Iveagh Cache! someday.... Here's a list that Donnacha compiled of which caches are close to the centre and which can be reached by using the DART train. Its not totally comprehensive, but hopefully it should be a good starting point--- Let's start with the city centre caches: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...49-66c8544238f7 You can bus it up to the park from O'Connell st http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...62-72cbd33d0d71 walk http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...bf-44bcf1da7203 walk http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a3-9467e3128d0f walk http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...2a-b4e98432a813 walk The rest you can do by train, here's a train map showing the stations: http://www.irishrail.ie/dart/your_journey/maps_and_zones.asp If I were you, I'd start from Howth and work your way to Bray: Howth Station: Bit of a walk from the station for these two. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fc-60e547ddf0e8 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a0-e3d9ea7eec88 Sutton Station: Long walk i believe http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...&log=y&decrypt= Clontarf Road Station: long walk to the first one http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...&log=y&decrypt= http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...34-8f5a7c3dd79b Blackrock Station: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8a-c641a9ea6e30 DunLaoghaire Station: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fe-072a63e8e8f1 Dalky Station: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...decrypt=y&log=y http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...9a-cb02fcf43747 Bray Station: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f9-d10e236eeaee Quote Link to comment

+-radar-
If you are flying to Dublin, there is a TB hotel a short walk from the terminal. It is right next to the Holiday Inn Quote Link to comment
