  1. Geocaching Ireland http://www.geocachingireland.com/ Geocaching Ireland was set up in August 2003 with the aim to establish an active geocaching community in Ireland, North and South, through our website and forums. Today you'll find a highly active community discussing a broad range of topics. We welcome any queries about caching in Ireland from both newcomers to the sport and tourists alike. We also organise regular events and meetings throughout all corners of Ireland. We like to think that our busy forums are a helpful, informative and fun place, so please stop by!
  2. There's a good number of cachers in Northern ireland alright! You may find the Geocaching Ireland forums helpful. http://www.forums.geocachingireland.com/
  3. Thanks for posting this solution to your problem, Mones. I had the same thing happen to me over the weekend and was despairing as the official Garmin update was not working. However your post has solved the issue! Thanks!
  4. Ah how quickly they forget! As a younger more naive cacher, Klaus, did you not log a "find" on The Cash Cache after putting a huge amount of effort into looking for it without actually finding it? As you gained more experience you realised that not actually finding a cache meant entering a DNF and you deleted your log. The very idea of logging a find on a cache that wasn't found seems ridiculous to most cachers who've been at it for a good while, but to newcomers the rules may not actually be so obvious. Give them a little time to find their feet. We all make mistakes when we're starting out - I even claimed finds on the first two caches that I planted - I honestly thought it was the done thing!
  5. ah yes, the Iveagh Cache! someday.... Here's a list that Donnacha compiled of which caches are close to the centre and which can be reached by using the DART train. Its not totally comprehensive, but hopefully it should be a good starting point--- Let's start with the city centre caches: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...49-66c8544238f7 You can bus it up to the park from O'Connell st http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...62-72cbd33d0d71 walk http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...bf-44bcf1da7203 walk http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a3-9467e3128d0f walk http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...2a-b4e98432a813 walk The rest you can do by train, here's a train map showing the stations: http://www.irishrail.ie/dart/your_journey/maps_and_zones.asp If I were you, I'd start from Howth and work your way to Bray: Howth Station: Bit of a walk from the station for these two. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fc-60e547ddf0e8 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a0-e3d9ea7eec88 Sutton Station: Long walk i believe http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...&log=y&decrypt= Clontarf Road Station: long walk to the first one http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...&log=y&decrypt= http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...34-8f5a7c3dd79b Blackrock Station: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8a-c641a9ea6e30 DunLaoghaire Station: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fe-072a63e8e8f1 Dalky Station: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...decrypt=y&log=y http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...9a-cb02fcf43747 Bray Station: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f9-d10e236eeaee
  6. I think you might have to wait a few weeks to be added to the ring, so prepare to be patient! Our site is in the queue for a few weeks now with no change in its status... the ring stats show... · 7 pending site(s) last action: 06/04/2004
  7. I hope they're all over 18! seriously, though, let us know if you need any help or advice and we'll see if we can be of assistance!
  8. Hi there, myself, Donnacha and Klaus23 have developed a new website for geocaching in Ireland. Hopefully it will be useful to anyone planning a caching holiday here, and also to those new to caching in Ireland. We're still developing the site, but feel free to drop by and have a look, Cheers, Bootle http://www.geocachingireland.com/
  9. I shall try to get a picture for you. Even though Dublin is a fairly huge city I cant actually think of any "Welcome to Dublin" signs, or even road signs saying "Dublin" on the way into the city... There are several signs welcoming you to each council / burrough of the city - maybe they say the city name on them too. I'll have a look. I'll be at the airport soon so there's bound to be a welcome to Dublin sign there!
  10. Oddly enough last weekend I helped a Swedish geocacher with the "Where's in a name cache". Ireland seems a good spot for names! A couple of weeks ago I was out in the direction of your coordinates - pity I didnt know about it then. However, the next time I'm out that way I'll try to get some photos. Hopefully it wont be too long before I'm out that direction. Best of luck to your daughter!
  11. now I feel a bit foolish! I was searching by using the main page - advanced search option, which always leads to http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx Using the hide and seek a cache option, the full url is displayed. I didnt think of this! Apologies! Thanks for your time, though. Now I'll just go and search for the nearest caches to Abbeyfeale and Newmarket! I'm glad you liked Ireland, hopefully you'll get a chance to do some caching here someday. We're working to get the numbers of caches and cachers up over here, but its a slow process! Happy caching, Bootle
  12. Brilliant, that's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks! I don't suppose you know what the extension is for searching from a particular coordinate set? I'm trying to do searches from places in Ireland, so the zip code method will not work for me. Also is there a webpage somewhere that tells you what criteria to use to construct the extension - from your examples "zip" gives you zip code, "u" gives you user, etc, but how did you find all that out? Thanks for the help, much appreciated!
  13. Hi there, apologies if this has been asked before - I couldnt find the answer in the forums... I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to link to the search page results for the nearest caches to a particular location. By this I mean that if I do a search for nearest caches it will return a list on this page http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx but if I then try to send this link on to someone else they would not see the results of my search, but rather the generic search page. Does anyone know if there is a way to send on a link to the search results page that will display the results I previously received? Some other search engines allow this, but I dont know if the geocaching one does. Thanks, Bootle
