Logging Caches Via Mobile Phone

I have seen logs stating that they have been entered using a mobile phone. How is this done? Do you need a Smart phone? Or can it be done using SMS or WAP?

Not 100% sure as I haven't got ours to work ... yet but it might by using a bluetooth pda and phone? or you could drop the logger a note, and ask how they did and what they're using.

We use an XDA2, which is a phone with internet explorer on it, so we just dial up our isp and log the cache . Expensive bit of kit though .

Answer to my own question.

 

You can log caches (amongst other things) using WAP at http://rtr.ca/geo. I havent fully tested it but it seems to work well and will do a lot mor besides logging caches.

Yes thanks to DS800, I played with this last week.

 

I have a bog standard mobile a Nokia 3210i. I entered a new bookmark in services with the link http://rtr.ca/geo

 

It logged on everytime. If used in conjuction with your GPS, e.g. find out where you are on the GPS, type in the Lat/Long into the mobile and it will inform you of the nearest caches. Full descriptions, cluewords and all the past logs.

 

You can then log on to the geocaching.com website and register a find or place a note on the cache log. Great but a bit slow, as you are limited to the usual typing constraints of the mobile keypad.

 

It does work... I experimented with a note on one of my caches, and within 10 seconds it appeared....
