Keystone Posted June 11, 2004 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Depending on the product, the unlock code may be on a separate certificate that would have shipped with your CD. That's how my City Select got unlocked. Not sure about MetroGuide. You might consider either asking in the Software forum here, or contacting Garmin customer support. Quote Link to comment

Keystone Posted June 11, 2004 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Some mapping software products, because they are so cool, have a security code to prevent the buyer from "sharing" the software with others. Basically your unlock code will work just for your own unique GPS receiver (or maybe two receivers). If you try using the software with your friend's GPS to download maps to that unit, it won't work. When you buy the map software and install it, you need to "unlock" the security code and tell the software (1) the special passcode for your software, and (2) the serial number for the unique GPS that it will be used with. At least that is basically how it works for CitySelect. Other products may vary. Quote Link to comment
