  1. I have a winter cache that was not winter-friendly. I deactivated it for the winter and forgot to reactivate come spring and they Archived it. How would I turn it on again?
  2. I am hoping to do the Route 66 power trail next week. Is there any way to get the entire power-trail with one pocket query? Thanks
  3. I am sure the software/ firmware is 5 years old. I will have him calibrate his compass too. Good suggestions. The unit has probably not been used in 2 years. He had lithium batteries in it and it was set to lithium batteries in the system set up.
  4. I was visiting my brother this weekend and we decided to try a cache or two with his older grey vista. It was a perfect coll and clear fall day. I entered a couple of caches into the unit and off we went. I was using the compass to direct us and it could not lock and direct us to ground zero. It would point us to around 25 meters then as we approached it would spin 180 degrees an point us in a new direction. Essentially it was unusable. Do these units get tired? Can it be fixed? Thanks
  5. I have heard mixed reviews. I don,t seems to get much help when I turn it on.

  13. My DAKOTA was recently replaced. I put the North AMerica road MAp on a micro Sd card. I loaded the card via Mapsource. The device is not recognizing the map. Have I done something wrong? Thanks
  14. Same here with my Dakota 10. Sounds like there maybe a fundamental problem with the Dakotas. Anyway, Garmin replaced it quickly with great customer service. Its has been working great since. Sent mine back to Garmin. Hope it comes back quickly. Thanks
  15. If I get it going through pulling the batteries out and reinserting them, I can turn it off with the switch. will try custom service again Thanks
  16. I have had the Garmin Dakota 20 for about a month. I had a 4 MB card and City Navi maps loaded. The Unit worked really well. It seems that it is slow to be recognized by my PC when I plug it in though. It started giving me a hard time turning over the past week. The on switch will not turn the unit on. It seems that only way I can get it to turn on is to take the batteries out and put them back in and the unit self boots up. I have updated the firmware. Taken out the SD and removed all maps and caches from the unit. In addition to putting in new batteries. I spent 87 minutes online today with tech support and the tech support guy was less than helpful. He had me remove my Maps and let me go. It will be expensive for me to ship to the states and I will have to pay duty on the unit when it comes back to Canada. Do any of you techies have a fix for this problem, which seems common? Thanks Ross
