+geospotter
Bigdave, I believe that Jeremy has, in the past, requested that that particular compass not be used here since it is over 50K in size. I used it for a while, then someone else used it, then Jeremy requested its removal. I'll see if I can find the thread, or I am sure that Jeremy will pipe in here in a second. Niall, I see that your compass is only about 15K, so I don't think that is a problem. Quote Link to comment

Jeremy
That compass gif will be the death of the Internet. If you want to restrict readers of your topic to those with high-bandwidth, keep it. It's just unnecessary. Jeremy Irish Groundspeak - The Language of Location Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
The big compass appears to be a smaller file size then the little one. The big compass is 9.4KB and the little one is 34.3KB. OK that doesn't answer any questions. I can guess, that 40 frames is a cycle that the GIF displays in the browser. However that's only effecting your CPU. The download size is still 34KB. Not that significant a draw on your bandwidth. That's why I asked for an explanation. I don't understand, why it would be the DEATH of the internet. When I'm at work I use a 14.4 modem. The signature images do not stop me from browsing the forums. Preparation, the first law to survival. Mokita! Quote Link to comment

Even it was 34K, that still about 34 times as big as message really needs to be, and multiply that a factor of X users times Y posts times Z reads per minute and pretty soon, you're talking real money. Nonethless, the weirder question to me is why you're sizes report so much different than mine...I get my 15K and 56K numbers if I check the properties, too. May I ask what your setup is? Browser, ISP, etc? ApK Quote Link to comment
