+NickandAliandEliza
Greetings, We're off to the Outdoors Show at the Birmingham NEC on Saturday. Can anyone recommend some nearby caches? Thanks.................... Quote Link to comment
+MarcB
I would have said the Travel Bug Hotel but that's been trashed Nearest now is Mirkwood which isn't too bad at all. Further afield you have... Clent Eastwood - Which has great views. Cut Down Cache - which is an excellent 5*/5* and Momentous Moments Though there are loads more! MarcB Quote Link to comment
+mongoose39uk
Failed on this one myself but an excellent even unique location. Cut down cache in Dudley has got to be the one to go for. Quote Link to comment
+NickandAliandEliza
Thanks alot. In the end we knackered ourselves out dragging all the stuff we bought around the show - so didn't manage to bag any caches afterwards........ Quote Link to comment
+aisledog
On a side issue, I didn't see geocaching mentioned once at the show... even in the 'GPS and electronic routes' presentation. I did get to see Shifali Oza though! Quote Link to comment

I did get to see Shifali Oza though! Never heard of her before, so I Googled..... She can read me the weather any day, and I wouldn't complain if it was a duff forecast either Quote Link to comment
+NickandAliandEliza
& I got Sir Chris Bonningtons auto-graph (Well Ali did - I was too over-awed!) The only place we saw Geocaching mentioned was on the bumpf about Garmins' new GPSr. Not sure if it's a shame or not.............. Quote Link to comment
+thirtyfootscrew
Geocaching was mentioned in the 'Get the most out of your GPS' talk by the guy from gpstraining.co.uk (at the Memory Map stand), it was only brief (and they didn't mention geocaching.com), a few people looked knowing and a few looked interested. +Richard & Beth
I heard mention that Magellan were showing their new UK Topo product based on Ordnance Survey data at the show. Did anyone who went along see it? Richard Quote Link to comment
+aisledog
Yes. They had planned on a launch at the show but the initial consignment was held up in a ship container on route. They are now saying the product will be available by the end of April at a cost of £120. Visitors to the show were given a voucher allowing a show price of £109 to apply. From my perspective, I have been relying on Mapsend Worldwide for maps of the uk to go with my Sportrak map pro US version. I found out that there are some differences between the detail on this and the equivalent detail on the Euro version. (so importers beware). The degree of detail on the display version of the GB topo looked quite impressive. I think this will be quite useful for geocachers. Without it the Magellan mapping GPSrs are little better that the non-mapping models...unless, that is, you happen to be searching next to a motorway Junction. Quote Link to comment
101325
The fine folks at Country Walking magazine said that they were going to do an article on Geocaching, and I had a good look at the Pelican cases and the Otterboxes which I had previously only seen in pictures. Thanks to a Pelican case I now feel that my camera is safe from bashing and rainwater in my rucksack. www.peli.com Quote Link to comment
