Hopsahi Harry Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I have a cool location for my next cache. The only problem is that it is subject to Spring flooding. I would like to retrieve the cache prior to the flooding, then replace it after the flooding is past. How does one "deactivate", then "reactivate" the cache? Quote
+quills Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 as the cache owner when you bring up the cache page there is a line underneath the name of the cache to temporarily disable it you just click on that line and it will show up as disabled but not archived. Quote
+Fritz_Monroe Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 If you do this, add a note explaining why it's unavailable and tell people that it will be available after the flooding season. Got one local that's been unavailable for 6 months with no explaination. Kinda annoying. F_M Quote
+briansnat Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 (edited) Or you can hide it above the high water mark. I have several caches in floodplains that are hidden in the crotch of trees, or suspended from branches. They have the added benefit that they serve as "hydrocaches" during floods. Some have been found by canoers. Or you use something waterproof like an ammo box and attach it to a tree root so it won't wash away (which is a good idea anyway because you might not be able to get out there in time to retreive it after a sudden storm). Trees have crotches?? That's more discusting that Janet's boob on TV!! I don't know if I would call it a crotch but I have seen many caches hidden between large trunks of trees... Quote

+Renegade Knight Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I wish you could set a date range a cache is open for business. This would solve the problem of seasonal caches without having to remember what day's it's open for business beyond when you set it up. Reasons. in an area that closes for summer/winter. In an area that has hibernating critters that don't need distrubed. etc. Quote
+Smitherington Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I have seen some that were disabled during hunting season for very practical reasons. The cache was still there but not able to be logged. Owner discretion. Quote
Hopsahi Harry Posted February 7, 2004 Author Posted February 7, 2004 Or you can hide it above the high water mark. This is a bit of a spoiler, but my first (and only) cache is like that. The help is really appreciated. Thanks Quote
