+ncfinn
I read that the battery life for the e-Trex Summit is as follows: 22 hr (GPS only), 13 hhr (GPS + compass). How do I turn the compass off? I have found no help in the owners manual. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+Rubberhead
It's on page 54 of the Summit manual. There is a "On/Off" pulldown on the Summit's System page. Quote Link to comment
+dino_hunters
Another option is to set heading so that it goes uses the GPS until you slow down below a very slow speed, or if you have dropped below speed for a long time. This should help too. I usually leave the compass on all the time because it is so handy. If battery life is very critical (long hike or backpacking trip) the best thing is to only turn the gps on peridically to check your location, and leave it off for most of the trip. +ncfinn
Thank you! I don't know how I managed to miss the instructions. I like using the compass, it is usually not important at all. I always carry a regular compass, too. I am just getting tired of having to get new batteries just about every other week. Quote Link to comment

Sounds like you're a good candidate to "invest" in a set. Edited February 4, 2004 by Neo_Geo Quote Link to comment
