Nearby Cachers

Is there a part of this message board or the website where you can look and see what cachers are from your state or your area? I ask because I'm wondering if there are ever any organized gatherings in local areas or if they are all pretty much informal.

The easiest way is to go to the geocaching.com home page and select your state from the drop-down menu on the right. From that search result you will see event caches at the top, as well as any organizations listed on the right, if there are any, just under the license plate.

 

From that same result page you can see the latest caches hidden, and who hid them. You can use those names, as well as names you find in the logs, as a means of finding local cachers.

You could just pick a date/time/location and post an event cache and see who shows up......

The other thing you can try ... read the logs on some of the caches where you live. From there you can tell who are the most active in your area. The owners of those caches probably live in the area too. Send the active cachers or owners an email directly and ask them. I know in my area there is an email list that the area cachers subscribe to ... I only found out about it by starting a dialogue with cache owners in the area.

Thanks greatly to all of you for the suggestions. This seems all pretty straightforward, but in some ways I'd like to have experienced people in the area to seek out for direct help or maybe get togethers. Thanks again.

Check your area for a local group. More people participate in the local forums than the GC ones. In general they are more friendly and more willing to help.

Yes. Check your local discussion group. It's the best place to start (other than visiting an event cache).
