cacheKidds Posted December 30, 2003 Posted December 30, 2003 I would want to know if someone could not find my caches, so I leave the purple face when we fail. I like that face. Quote
instep_guy Posted December 30, 2003 Posted December 30, 2003 Once the GOTO is selected it's either a find or a DNF. If I return for a second try and find it I'll delete my DNF post (hate those purple stains). Quote
The Dillon Gang Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 I HATE POSTING DNF! i have posted about 4 dnfs. sometimes if i sturck out i will attempt it again within a few days i won't log anything. guess i should drop a note at the cache i'm working on. i do not delete my dnfs. i have "avenged" 2 of them and the others were missing/archived soon. what i can't stand is seeing a cache page with the last 6 logs dnf and a cache owner missing/not responding to emails about the problem. anybody have any feelings about cache owners that "disappear" from geocaching and leave you wondering about where the cache is? +mozartman Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 (edited) sorry for the double post. Edited December 31, 2003 by mozartman Quote
mozartman Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 YES! I also hate when there's a string of DNFs on a cache over a long period of time and no response from the cache owner. At least they could write a note... Kinda inconsiderate, but what can you do? if it's a long enough time, my experience is that they will be archived by the approvers, but I think somebody has to email a complaint, approvers, chime in if I'm wrong. +TotemLake Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 I think this is one of those things that mose people who actully respond to, post DNF's. My take is if I'm at ground zero looking for the cache and give up looking it's a skunk. If I run out of daylight or time but I'm really not done looking, it's a note. This is the direction I have taken on my DNF's these days. Because I freelance now, if I get called to do a job while enroute to a cache I don't post anything. I have to be at GZ and get skunked to declare a DNF. I used to change my DNF's to a FOUND IT and still will if there are no other posts before I do find it. If someone found it after my DNF though, I will place a new post to maintain the integrity of the history of the cache. As an afterthought, there's nothing embarrassing about posting DNF. I think besides alerting the owner there may be something wrong, isn't that also part of the challenge vis-a-vis the owner? To hide it well enough to keep the seeker from finding it? Quote
Team GPSaxophone Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 I posted a DNF a couple of days ago. My log explains that the park was too crowded to do a proper search. THis lets future cachers know that it may take more than one visit before they can look for it. Quote
