+opey one
Can someone inform me the distinction between a "guest" and a "member"? As I am scrolling through the threads, I have encountered several which contain only replies from guests and some only from members. What's the difference? Thanks Quote Link to comment
umc
Guest, someone who has not registered here (I think) member, someone who has regestered here. Charter Member, someone who pays to be here. +GatoRx
How old are the threads that you've been looking at? The forums underwent a conversion (to a new system or something like that) back during the spring. The threads that were carried over from the old system to the current one will show the title "Guest" under each person's user name; these were from the days before Charter Memberships were started, so everyone was considered a guest. +opey one
Sorry, GatoRx, but I just thumbed through the posts, and found the thread "geocaching.com usernames" by hgmonor, and all it contained was replies from "guests". That's all, just wondering Quote Link to comment

Thanks When the forums converted, all users on the old database come up as guest... It's an old UBB thang... I go thru the archives at times as well... Interesting stuff back there... Jeremy said recently that he was going to (eventually) start cleaning up pics off the server. Some folks upload pics to one of their cache listings, keep the URL for future reference from a variety of pages, and delete the link to the pic from the listing. The image file would still be on the server and so could be referenced. But I didn't think he was going to start cleaning up so soon, so that may have nothing to do with your problem. Yes, intreresting paradox...if one had sufficient computer knowledge, they could encode thier vast knowledge on the back of a postage stamp...the more knowledge in the smaller space, requires more knowledge...great...more ambiguity. +Criminal
The pic was taken by my son in the Olympic National Forest. We went "you want - it you carry it" camping there this past summer. It’s hard to tell from the photo but my gear is in a low tech alice pack. Since he’s only good for a hike of two miles or so, it didn’t really matter. Most of the ONF is like a rain forest. There is also high altitude mountainous terrain all the way down to the beach in western portion of the park. I don’t think you can place a cache out there but you can have a good old fashioned campfire. Nonetheless, the Pacific Northwest is the best place to live IMHO. (I grew up in CT, did basic in Texas, stationed at Travis AFB in CA, stationed at Charleston AFB in SC, visited practically every country in Europe, Africa, SW Asia, and most of the Pacific and S America.) My computer knowledge can be printed on the back of a postage stamp with a magic marker, to clarify. Last night I noticed that “Picture of Criminal” appeared in the place where my pic was supposed to be. It did that for Opey too. Later they all came back. I also noticed that everybody was a guest, there were no “members” at that time. I assumed it was a glitch in the system. May have been my connection too. More pics are here and here. The benchmark photos are easier to post since they get resized for you. I grew up a Navy brat, travelling all over. SC, MA, FL, CO, Guam. I take a motorcycle trip every year looping all through the western US. Once you cross over the mountains out of western Washington or decend below Portland everything turns brown. Everywhere I have lived in my life, there is nothing like the Great North West.
