+jeff35080
I need help with a public domain logo. I want to use the Sissy-n-CR 'clean' design from this page: http://bytethebullet.com/geologo/leatherman__variants.htm It is available in many formats, however, I need it in DXF format. Is there anyone that can convert it for me or offer assistance? I am making some really cool trinkets for my caches and to leave in others with the logo on them. I would sincerely welcome any help! Thanks! Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... Quote Link to comment
jerhirsch
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't dxf an AutoCad file? Quote Link to comment
Lefty Skywalker
dxf is a CAD format. The newer versions of Autocad use a dwg format which is sort of an enhanced version. What you ought to do is go download Paint Shop Pro, which will open just about anything picturesque. What Would Yoda Do? Quote Link to comment
jerhirsch
I've got the image open in Photoshop, if I save it as a tiff or bmp, can you import one of those file formats into your project? I think you would need a CAD program, to save as dfx... but I'm not sure. If you're using any time of GIS software, it should accept any type of jpeg, gif, tiff, or bmp without any trouble. +jeff35080
I need the DXF file to feed into a computer which controls a laser and I don't have anyway to convert it. I would imagine other people could also find it useful. Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... Quote Link to comment
+jeff35080
I also forgot to mention that DXF is a cad file. Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... Quote Link to comment
+MrGigabyte
Here you go.... PD Logo in DXF format ... let me know if this version works for your application. Quote Link to comment
jerhirsch
Ok, I looked at the help files for AutoCad 6 and it says it supports raster images in bmp, tif, and some other format I wasn't familiar with. Unfortunately, I couldn't get AutoCad to open it, probably because I have no clue what I am doing! (And I was working on of terminal server.) So here's what I can offer, I saved the image as a tif, and if you know more cad than I do, you might be able to import it into your cad drawing and save it as the dxf you need. Or something of the sorts. You can pick up the file here... http://ouray.cudenver.edu/~jwhirsch/geologo2.tif (you'll probably have to do a "save as" on the link) I hope this helps, because it sounds like you've got a pretty cool project going there. Good luck! ---- Edit: Looks like the guy above me actually knows what he is doing! Quote Link to comment
+jeff35080
Thanks guys! I think the one MrGigabyte did will do the trick, but I have also saved the link you gave me jhirsch. Now, let's see if I can get some Geotrinkets burned Mr. Gigabyte, do you mind if I submit the file you made to the public domain database? +ScottJ
Autocad drawings are .DWG. The DWG file format is forward-compatible only -- early versions of Autocad can't open later versions' DWGs. DXF (Drawing eXchange Format) is a "universal" format, read and written by all versions of Autocad. It's also an "open" format, used by other CAD software, rendering software, and the like. All DXF's are alike in format, all DWG's aren't. Just thought I'd throw that semi-useless data out there in case anyone's interested. My job involves using Autocad almost constantly. If you're still having trouble converting your logo to DXF, let me know and I'll help. Scott -- Scott Johnson (ScottJ) Quote Link to comment

Lasers are used everyday to cut and etch materials, as are waterjet machines. These machines are controlled by a computer. I happen to have a friend who owns both a laser and waterjet. Using lasers in this manner is quite common and nothing out of the ordinary. Cheers! Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... +Sissy-n-CR
Sure computers run lasers. I use one every day. CR Quote Link to comment
