enfanta Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 Would it be okay to leave cards announcing an event in local caches? And do I need to collect all of them once the event is over?? +CYBret Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 Why not just post it to the site as an event cache? I'm sure you'd have a lot more turn out . . . and more feedback. Bret "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again." Mt. 13:44 Quote
The Buzzard's Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 Placing cards in caches is good way of keeping cachers reminded of the event and you can have people remove them from the caches and place them either in caches that are close to you after the event is over. Other than that, they just become part of a cache, so I don't see any harm in their placement. I've been thinking of having an event on the Saturday before Memorial Day at Lake Raystown, since most of us Buzzard's are going to be there. We have also been talking to a couple of other local cachers about it. Does this appeal to you? I'll probably be posting the location and other info on the Northeast forum soon. iryshe Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 It would be more appropriate to put in a card for a local geocaching organization than an invitation to an event, IMO. You never know when the cache will be found next. Jeremy Irish Groundspeak - The Language of Location Quote
enfanta Posted March 26, 2003 Author Posted March 26, 2003 I plan to post the event on-line as soon as it's clear that the date works for a couple key people. The announcement cards in the caches are not meant to replace on-line advertising. I know this will come as a shock to you but some folks cache and don't post to the forums! GASP! It's these folks I'm trying to reach. PS (If I could get a local caching organization together, it wouldn't be necessary to advertise in the caches! ) Thanks all! Well, nobody's perfect But even those that don't post to the forum will see an event cache listed on their weekly updates and on the main page here on the website (scroll down to "upcoming event caches"). An event cache that's been publicized on the website is likely to draw a lot more people than those that are in your immediate area (and likely to find the cache you've advertized in). The event cache will show up on their nearby cache list and they will find out about it that way. --Marky "All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer with a backlit GPSr" Quote
