Alphawolf
If you are looking for the best "dual-purpose"(off-road caching etc. and on road navigation)the by all means, the V. The auto-routing alone makes it a standout. The 19 megs. of map memory is adequate for Metroguide, or City Select and more than enough for Topo. I do wish it had expandable memory, but it's still the best, even without it. Being able to orient the screen to landscape or portrait is nice when swithing between your dash and the hand. The fact that it comes standard with the PC cable, the 12 volt adapter, the dash mount and software makes it a vey cost-competetive model. Add up the total cost of any other high-end model with all of these accessories and see where you are. About all you'll ever need to add is perhaps a case and a differrent set of maps if you choose. +Renegade Knight
Garmin V now that you can get the Deluxe and not get ripped off on the software upgrade. Though if they upgrade again they will rip you off at that time. If you don't need routing, the Sport Track Pro is a dadgum good bang for the buck (here is the anti Garmin bias slipping in due to their upgrade policy). The antanai is just as good as the V. The two annoying features of the Sport Track Pro are the oversized waypoint names. If there are a lot of waypoints in an area they clutter up the screen and you have a hard time reading the map. The second is the rubber band map. On Garmin products the line connecting your position to your destination waypoint changes as your position changes. This is very handy on the map screen to navigate roads and keep track of where you are going. On the Sport Track (Unless a ROM upgrade fixed it) the rubber band is a snapshot of where you were at one point in time. As you move it doesn't change positions until you force an update. When you buy a GPS you are not just buying a good GPS unit. You are also buying into the companies software system for their GPS's. That software is either good or not, and they have upgrade policies that will impact you. If there is a bug in the ROM software for the GPS you need to know that the company will fix it and issue an update quickly. Wherever you go there you are. Quote Link to comment

SergZak
I own quite a few GPSR's and the GPS V is the one that goes with me everywhere. Quote Link to comment
+jollybgood
The GPSV. I've owned four units and the V is definitely the best unit I've seen. The only thing I'll give it up for is a GPS VI (Which, in a perfect world would have a color screen and a USB port). Jolly R. Blackburn http://kenzerco.com Quote Link to comment
