rx7351w
Hi everyone I just found this site and searched but did not find the answers to my question. I just purchased a data cable with power supply for my legend to connect it to my laptop. I am trying to figure out which software I need. I would like to use the laptop as the display along with more detail of the roads I am traveling. Is MapSource™ MetroGuide what I need to do this? Is there a better software to use? I have had my legend for a couple months now but I have not used it very much. Thanks Chad Quote Link to comment
karlmur
I use Mapsource Topo, but any of the Garmin Map software will work. I also use ExpertGPS when Im connected to the Internet. I might try downloading Data top CD/RW. Does anyone know if Expert will do this? Karlmur Quote Link to comment
johnz16
The newest version of the Delorme software works very well with the legend. It is called Street Atlas 2003 and it will cost you about $45. There are cheaper alternatives but I happen to like this one. Quote Link to comment
rx7351w
Thanks for the advise so far. I can buy the Metroguide version 4.01 for $84.95. Is the metro guide worth the extra $40 over the Delorme software? Is the metroguide easy to use? Thanks Chad Quote Link to comment
targetdrone
rx, if you are using the laptop, you can use almost any map software you wish. (I have used many programs, and prefer MS Streets & Trips for the laptop.) Just set the output mode on the Legend to 'NMEA'. (Leave it in 'Garmin' output if you are using Garmin software.) If you get the Mapsource software, you can load maps into the Legend. Metroguide uses up more memory than topo or Road & Rec. Make sure you turn off autorouting if you get the Metroguide. "It's free advice and worth every cent." Quote Link to comment
av1atorbo
I've got the Legend, Topo USA and Street Atlas... they all work well together! I tend to lean toward the Topo USA for travel with a laptop. Great stuff, this is. bo Quote Link to comment
+CapFantasy
When we go Geocaching in unfamiliar areas, we hook our Legend into our laptop with MapSource disk in it and I don’t think there’s a place we can’t find. We are really pleased with the detail. It’s almost like cheating. We’ll use this setup when we go on vacation this summer. No more wrong turns. Quote Link to comment
