+ErSamin
Yesterday, after a long day of caching, I pulled my cigarette lighter adapter out of the lighter socket in my car, and it flew apart. the collar had become unscrewed after numerous fiddlings (it sits about knee height and gets bumped some) and the spring, fuse, pin and collar all fell onto the floor of the car. I've got all the pieces, but am unsure whether the spring or the fuse should go in first. Couldn't find a diagram anywhere. Can someone check and report back to me.....just don't want to risk frying anything when I plug it back in. "Could be worse...could be raining" Quote Link to comment

"Could be worse...could be raining" Every adapter that I've ever had the spring goes in first and then the fuse. That way the fuse will be pushed out by the spring when you open it up and the spring should stay safely seated in the bottom. robertlipe
Why can I guess this is a Magellan cable...Answering for those; if this isn't the Magellan cable, disregard. The spring and the fuse can go in either order. (If you lose the spring, snag a replacement out of a ballpoint pen.) Insert the nipple in the outer collar. Screw the outer collar onto the plastic housing. Don't overtighten the collar or you will split the housing which will only make this problem worse. Magellan can send you a kit containing the five metal pieces that frequently land in the floor of your car. They appear to not be too suprised when when get these requests. Personally, I'm considering whacking off the end (safe in the knowledge the regulator is in that grey box) and putting a reasonable adapter on the end of the cable. Quote Link to comment
+Lone Duck
Spring first. It does matter because the spring will pop the fuse out if you ever need to replace it. Or, you can go Radio Shack and get a replacement lighter plug to attach to the cord. That Quack Cacher: Lone Duck When you don't know where you're going, every road will take you there.
