marty621
Does anyone have a program they would like to share for Palm operating system to decrypt the hints on the cache pages? Quote Link to comment
+joefrog
There's a program called "Hint decoder" that does the trick. Small & effective. If you're on a palm already, why don't you go paperless? Best thing I've done in ages... Check out the "GPS Units & Software" section, titled "New "Old" Palm on the way!" The tutorial itself is linked in the discussion, but straight to it here: http://b.hammond.home.mchsi.com/paperless.html Joel (joefrog) "Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for ye are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!" +CYBret
Here you go. I find it's a tad tedious to enter the hints in...especially when they're long. Much easier to just go with Plucker or some other PQ system. Bret "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again." +Touchstone
I use Plucker and Spinner. I'm not sure which one does the decoding, but it's a great combination. You get the cache descriptions, and a few logs. Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. The rest go geocaching. DiverMan
I use my Handspring (palm OS based) to keep track of the caches. I go to a cache page, decrypt the hint if I feel I need to and copy/paste the text (not the logs) into my "to do" list notes. That way when I am in the field, I reference the notes and get the info I need. If I find the cache, I then mark that "to do" as complete. I try to keep the paper to a minimum when I am out. Wind/rain has a tendancy to ruin the paper . DiverMan Dive Down, Dive Deep Quote Link to comment

+bon_sai
Although not a Palm app, but I wrote a VB program to encrypt/decrypt hints. Just copy the hint from the cache page and paste into the app. Press the encrypt/decrypt button and there you are. Quote Link to comment
+GeckoGeek
I think SirRalanN ment to say that CacheMate CAN hold hints and decode them. I know the screens are there but I've never used them. The one catch is that you need to become a premium member to download GPX files. That way you load the whole sheet into your Palm. Descriptions, hints and all. Quote Link to comment
+Mannings
I have Cachemate, and it is a great tool - a great way to go paperless. The earlier version wasnt terribly useful, but in the last couple of there have been some great additions. Now you can even download everything already decoded, but I don't see the point.
