Create pocket query of finds outside of my own country

Recommended Posts

Hello Peeps,

I'm looking to add my foreign finds to Google Maps.  This is to plan where to head for next.  Is there a way to create a pocket query that excludes my home country (UK in this instance) or is there another method I could use?

Cheers,

You can choose what to load by country or state. Open up geocaching on a computer. Under 'Play' at the top, pick 'Pocket queries'. Create a New Query.

Fill out what you want. When you reach this below select a country. It can be reduced further by also picking a state/province.

I chose Luxembourg. The result was only caches in Luxembourg were selected. For bigger countries you might need to do state/province.

Hope this helps.

You can also use that Countries listbox to select all countries except one. To do that, select the first one (Afghanistan), then scroll to the bottom of the list (Zimbabwe) and hold the Shift key while clicking on it. This will select all countries, then scroll up to the one you want to exclude (United Kingdom), hold down the Ctrl key and click on that. This should result in all countries selected except the UK.

Unfortunately the biggest load is 1000, and unless they are countries with few caches, most caches will not be included. Also on that 1000 limit, any load that reaches the maximum load at 1000 caches, is likely missing caches, which could be thousands  missing.

Thank you pointing out that more than one country can be clicked. Will be handy for loading more than one place, when the places are tiny and have few caches, such as Vanuatu and Fiji. Wouldn't work in Europe though, as too many caches. Might work for several state/province though, depending how many caches in each. Would have been good to have been able to go one more size down to county size too.

When I have been visiting cities in Europe, usually as one of a tour group, before leaving home I create a search map of where I will be, either city or tour stop. From the map I can delete caches which do not interest me (I am usually left with traditonals, events and virtuals). If staying in a city I will zoom in or out, using my hotel acommodation as the centre, and bring up caches in I can conveniently walk to or get to on public transport depending on time available (HOHO busses are good for this). On the map page I can click "save as pocket query" and name it. The PQ will show how many caches there are. I also print the cache page I saved to take with me as I like to record my finds on it with a few details for later logging.

I also check for caches near to where I will be staying and those I can use public transport to get to. I do several smaller pocket queries to load into the Garmin. Going on a cruise soon to Singapore. I loaded one pocket query (minus caches found on previous trips and minus puzzles) for Singapore and nearby Malaysia, and this came in at 800. I have time in Singapore by myself, so not sure where I might go, so a general load. I have tiny loads for ports on the way, and a load for the Sydney CBD, as I will spend a day in Sydney before sailing. All this would be under 2000 caches. Any solved puzzles are loaded individually.

Cool. Suss out caches close to MRT stations in Singapore, you can do a day trip right around the island. You can purchase day tickets at any station. Or you can just opt for city caches but can be a little hilly for some. IIRC there are lots of mysterys.

BTW. I can't recall many or any regulars big enough for trackables unless they are tiny although  I did pick one trackable coin.

I don't know everywhere I will go, so hence my comment, but I am going to be finding Sidetracked caches (I collect them) which are close to the metro stations and Singapore has 14 of them. Most are traditional, but the puzzle one I have solved, and one of the two multicaches. That Singapore multicache (SideTracked - SMRT Canberra) is linked to a SideTracked cache here in Canberra (REALLY SideTracked - Canberra). To find each, you must contact someone in the other city. I contacted someone in Singapore and got the information to solve the multicache in Canberra. Now, naturally living in Canberra I was able to get the information to find the cache in Singapore, and taking that with me. I hope I can also cross the border to get a cache in Malaysia. I plan a visit to the museum area and the famous gardens to find Earthcaches. After that I will decide where to go next. Hence I loaded all the caches. I'm there for seven days. I preference, SideTracked, Earthcaches, Virtuals (the last two because of some challenge caches), new countries (any cache will do for that) and previous DNFs, of which I just noticed there is one, so I must add that to the list. The DNF was in 2017, but I think I can still picture in my mind vaguely what the area looks like, so not sure where I can look, but maybe I will find it this time.
