+sepfind
I have an old Oregon 450. The rubber power switch has worn off, as they do. I have the replacement piece which will require removing about 4" of the old rubber gasket. I thought it would be fairly easy to remove the old gasket, but no. It is dry and brittle and only flakes off in small pieces. It will take forever to remove this way. Is there a way to "dissolve" or soften the old gasket without damaging the electronics? +Mineral2
You could try to remove the logic board and screen so that all you're left with is the case. But be aware that anything that dissolves the rubber gasket will dissolve the rubber on the outside too. Quote Link to comment
+sepfind
It is the piece on the outside that I am trying to remove. I might have mis-spoke by saying gasket. The replacement piece they call bumper. Any idea what would dissolve it? Quote Link to comment
+Mausebiber
Are you talking about the outside rubber, which has now a hole where the on/off switch used to be? I have done this before and I used a sharp knife to "peel" the rubber off, then I used sandpaper to smoothen the outside. https://www.marcelcuvelier.de/?p=2047 Edited July 2 by Mausebiber Quote Link to comment
+sepfind
Mausebiber, yes this is the part I am trying to remove. I will try scoring it as your pics show. Thank you! Quote Link to comment
