+ReallyRandom
I want to build by own gadget birdhouse geocache eventually that sits on its own post. I live in a suburban city in the US , and I am wondering how I would go about getting permission to dig a hole and place a bird house on public land, and if it is even worth it. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

I use Regrid to figure out who owns a particular piece of property. Often what people think of as public land is unused private land, so it's worth a check. 7 hours ago, ReallyRandom said: if it is even worth it That's the question you need to determine. Sometimes it may be easier to create a birdhouse that just stands on its own, and then attach it to an existing structure (in a manner discussed with the landowner). Quote Link to comment
+lee737
Would you need permission to dig a post hole for a real bird house?? Quote Link to comment
+Smitherington
I have several bird house caches in parks in my community. In one case I contacted the township supervisor because they have a park but no parks department. In the other case I contacted the Parks & Recreation department. They gave permission and later asked me to put on a Geocaching 101 class. In both cases they want people using the parks and welcomed the geocaches. Quote Link to comment

It's an irrelevant question, because the OP must certainly have permission from the land manager in order to have their cache published as an exception to the Geocache Hiding Guidelines. I appreciate the OP's question, which demonstrates they've read the following guideline text: Quote Do not bury geocaches, either partially or completely. You must not create a hole in the ground to place or find a geocache. The only exception is if a property owner gives explicit permission to create a hole to place the cache, which you must provide to the reviewer and state on the cache page. 3 1 Quote Link to comment
