Saving a background image to a cache listing fails

When adding a .jpg background image, whether dragged in or imported as file, the subsequent "Save" or "Save and view" results in an error and the image is not added. I'm using Firefox for Mac 117.0.1 as browser, but Safari 16.5.1 gives the same results as this seems to be a server issue:

Server Error in '/' Application.

I had this a while back.  I worked around it by changing the image… don’t remember exactly, probably the file format or size.

I've changed the format to PNG and that is accepted. .JPG and .JPEG will give the above error.

I'm getting the same kind of error, even with just deleting the background image.

Managed to successfully delete the image, but couldn't add a new one.

It's possible the image is too big size-wise. The one I was trying was 1024x1024, but when I shrank it to 512x512 it worked.
