Why are there only a few EarthCaches placed in the Central Iowa/Des Moines area?

After browsing through the Geocaching map, I started to see that there weren't many EarthCaches placed in central Iowa compared to other areas of the country such as NYC, Arizona, etc. Why is this? Have you geocached in areas that seem to have only a few EarthCaches?

New York City has fewer than Des Moines and most of those are in Central Park.  Does Iowa have a lot of interesting geological features that would make interesting caches?  If so, it’s a wonderful opportunity for you to create some for the local cachers!

When I was in Harrisburg PA 5/31/22 I logged Monuments in Harrisburg GC922M7. There are 4 other earth caches within a half mile.  Monuments is on the capitol grounds and asks the differences in two granite statue bases.  If I ever go back there I'll try to log at least 2 more earth caches.

You should be able to do some similar earth caches in Des Moines.

Maybe. See this article on Earthcaches that are now limited, among them "building stones".

Not to say it can't be done, but pay attention to what's required now.

Thanks for the tip! I've hidden a few in the Des Moines area over the past couple of months (GC9VKEQ, GC9VDPY, GC9RC77, and GC9R8TT). I also got one published today, which I'm super happy about (GC9X8E6)! I'm looking to publish some more in the area soon.
