  1. This is a great formula to follow. It can take many phone calls/emails to get permission.
  2. Reading about interesting locations is certainly a part of it. I've found that if I research the local geology, I can find noteworthy sites to think about placing an EC. Also, sometimes just stumbling upon a cool place with geological importance sparks a sense of creativity and willingness to create an EC (ie: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9W5KX, https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9YPMV, and https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCA038C).
  3. Absolutely! I totally agree with this—Google Translate has plenty of inaccuracies when it comes to sentence structure/grammar. If I wound up deciding to place an EarthCache, I would get it translated either by a local cacher or a human translator.
  4. I am going to be traveling abroad in a couple of months and am considering placing an EarthCache during my travels. As an English speaker traveling to a majority Spanish-speaking country (the Dominican Republic), can I write the EarthCache write-up in English? Does Geocaching HQ translate cache pages to the local language? Thank you so much!
  5. I was thinking about possibly creating an EarthCache about a local rain garden. Are rain gardens/bioretention facilities an accepted EarthCache topic?
  6. Thanks for the tip! I've hidden a few in the Des Moines area over the past couple of months (GC9VKEQ, GC9VDPY, GC9RC77, and GC9R8TT). I also got one published today, which I'm super happy about (GC9X8E6)! I'm looking to publish some more in the area soon.
  7. After browsing through the Geocaching map, I started to see that there weren't many EarthCaches placed in central Iowa compared to other areas of the country such as NYC, Arizona, etc. Why is this? Have you geocached in areas that seem to have only a few EarthCaches?
  8. On our recent trip to Hawaii (before Covid), we discovered a beach with a ton of sea glass on it. Many of the locals considered this "Glass Beach." We were wondering, do you think that this would be an acceptable earthcache topic? Sea glass is formed by physical weathering. Weathering/erosion is considered to be an earthcache accepted topic. If we emphasized this and highlighted this in our description, do you think that we could make this into an earthcache? ~Ocean5000
  9. *Update: NJ is now publishing caches.
  10. We were trying to place an earthcache: The Parsippany Rock House (GC8R134). The reviewer said that NJ isn't currently publishing geocaches. Is this similar thing happening in other states/countries as well?
  11. Check out our virtual reward 2.0 in Alaska: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC892G1_welcome-to-ketchikan
  12. We are wondering, is Geocaching HQ going to release a country/regional souvenir for the Bahamas?
  13. Thank you very much GeoAwareUSA9. We have sent the NPS an email for our earthcaches in Denali and Glacier Bay National Park.
  14. Hello, We are trying to place an earthcache in Alaska. We had sent out our submission on 11/28, but are wondering when the earthcaching reviewer will get back to us. How long are earthcaches generally published? Thank you very much, ~Ocean5000
