+majordude
I still don't know what it means! Any geocacher can move a collectible trackable to their Collection. Trackables in your collection do not show in your Inventory. You can only Discover a trackable when it is in another geocacher’s collection. Are they saying collectable has nothing to do with if the item is rare or not? Or if you can keep it forever or not (a gift)? Quote Link to comment

Are they saying collectable has nothing to do with if the item is rare or not? Or if you can keep it forever or not (a gift)? For a Trackable item that you're activating, if you don't know what "Mark This Item Collectible" is for, you don't need it. Select "No". If you eventually buy or are given a lot of cool Geocoins that you feel the need to activate for some reason, and if you then will take them in binders to Events for people to "Discover", that's one reason you'll want them placed into your Collection. Otherwise, pretty much, no. In the realm of Geocaching "The Collection" and "Collectible" have very specific meanings and purposes. The owner may place a Trackable Item into a Collection to remove it from play, so it doesn't clutter the inventory of a cache or cacher. Setting your Trackable to Collectible allows it to be placed into a Collection (including that of a friend on the other side of the planet). Maybe because your coin is part of a rare set, and the friend wants to show the set. The Trackable remains the property of the owner. If it's Collectible or in a Collection, it's entirely at the discretion of the owner when it is to be returned to play. Think of "Collectible" and the "Collection" as a way for honest people to document who's keeping a Trackable and why, while the owner still owns it. If it's a gift to keep forever, it makes more sense to not activate it at all, so the recipient has an actual new item as a gift. Or if you must give away a Trackable that was in play, use the "Adoption" feature instead. But not the Collection. Edited July 9, 2022 by kunarion 1 Quote Link to comment
