+PDOP's
Some of the errors in news reports about GPS are incredible. In this one from the Globe and Mail the reporter has the satellites hovering above the planet and a GPS receiver on Earth bounces signals off of two or more satellites It's hard to believe that they do any research at all. +Couparangus
I think every article I've read in the newspapers about something I have direct involvement or experience in was full of errors. Which of course makes one wonder about all those other articles!!! Of course, we have a lifetime to learn about GPS receivers and location-technology whereas reporters often have less than a few hours before deadline. Cheers! Coupar-Angus Quote Link to comment
+Decodoppler
Few editors have time to do much in the way of sense checking "filler" stories at the best of times... This one was a sidebar story about high-tech weapons and frankly probably didn't rate much thought at all. Likely in this case, even if you sat and explained the errors in the story, they'd change nothing! The point is, they hit the deadline, the story had some readability, it filled the space around the ads. And don't believe anything you read... anywhere. Doppler "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!" Coupar-Angus I've often wondered about this myself. I remember how many errors a local story had when the national press did it.
