Sammorost
I just made my first cache. I planted it and got the coordinates from Google Maps. But the circle just keeps turning. I have tried different format types to no avail. Anything I am missing? Quote Link to comment

+L0ne.R
Getting good coordinates by using an actual GPS device. At the very least a good GPS smartphone app and several readings taken over a couple of days and re-checked by trying to navigate back to the cache (even better, get someone else to test it). Sammorost
How does this affect Geocaching.com's ability to read the location? I don't understand? Quote Link to comment
+L0ne.R
1489801685[/url]' post='5642149']How does this affect Geocaching.com's ability to read the location? I don't understand? Have you tried a different browser? Regarding our comments, they are generally written out of frustration. Many new hiders make the mistake of providing inaccurate coordinates and not checking them to see if it actually goes to the cache. Using Google Maps can be out by quite a lot. Have you checked to see if you can navigate back to the cache using your coordinates? I assume the caches you've found so far were found using a smartphone with the geocaching app. So download a GPS waypoint marking app. I have an iPhone and have tried and continue to use: Free GPS Commander Compass Anchor Pointer Coordinate Converter iArrow Take multiple waypoints readings, average them, check that you can get back to your cache. Using Google Maps suggests that you may not have used the best tools available for accurate readings. This may help with regard to explaining google maps accuracy: https://productforum...aps/tVr4BHSdf1o Edited March 18, 2017 by L0ne.R Quote Link to comment
+NanCycle
How does this affect Geocaching.com's ability to read the location? I don't understand? Actually it has nothing to do with it. It's just that using Google maps is not an approved method of finding the coordinates, because they can be off by quite a bit. (Not always are, but can be.) You must take actual coordinates at the cache location. Quote Link to comment
Sammorost
I understand that noobs can cause alot of stress...lol, my apologies. I have tried different browsers with no luck. I will go out tomorrow and try to get better coordinates with an app and see if it reacts different. Quote Link to comment
+niraD
Are you trying to create a new geocache listing using the app? If so, then you can't do that. You need to use the geocaching.com web site to create a new geocache listing. Sammorost
I am using the website. It is acting funky. I would post a photo but I don't know where to post it online for a link. Quote Link to comment
+kunarion
I am using the website. It is acting funky. I would post a photo but I don't know where to post it online for a link. Which operating system and web browser? Maybe it's a temporary thing. I just now saved one as a test (not submitted), and it's fine. You can post a photo or link to a photo pretty quickly using "TinyPic" (google it), but photos aren't necessarily permanently stored there. Or describe which step in the process causes the problem. Sammorost
Alright, I went and got coordinates. I have been trying to submit the cache at https://www.geocaching.com/hide/planning.aspx and it hasn't been functioning properly. But I found the same process through https://www.geocaching.com/play/hide and it worked...problem is it won't let me place it because it sees the cache I tried to place on the previous session. I go to my caches and it shows I have none......Who do I contact to remove the previous cache? UGH!!! Quote Link to comment

Sammorost
It says page not found. Just today I went to one down the road from me called "High Flyer or Big Air" it's 2,640 from my house Quote Link to comment
Sammorost
It may be premium only. If so give me the coordinates and I'll see if I can find it manually. Quote Link to comment

As mentioned, your coords are only 243 feet from a PMO cache. Check your new cache page submission for Reviewer notes. Based on your coordinates, your cache can't be placed there. Looks like both the active cache and your new one are at the edge of the cemetery. Otherwise, the whole area is pretty sparse. You might place it most anywhere else and not hit a cache. Keystone
It may be premium only. If so give me the coordinates and I'll see if I can find it manually. You don't need to know the exact coordinates -- just pay attention to the circles on the planning map. Also, try going to your page and clicking on the link to show all nearby caches. You will "see" the PMO cache at the top of the list, together with the distance (243 feet) and direction (West) from your cache. Quote Link to comment
Sammorost
It went through yesterday and the reviewer notified me that it wasn't conflicting with my cache but a hidden premium cache. I am going to have to find a new area. But I now know how submit it without issue! Thanks so much guys! Quote Link to comment
Sammorost
Yay! It went through! "Don't get Stumped" GC729VC just got reviewed and went live! Quote Link to comment
+GeoTrekker26
Congratulations on getting your first cache published. I see you logged a find on it, which is generally considered poor etiquette. This is from section 6.18 of the Help Center (https://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=80). If you want to "fix it", you can delete your found it log. "It is considered bad form to log a “Found it” log on your own geocache. You are not "finding" your cache because you already know where it is. Save the smiley face for times when you truly discover a hidden cache. The same is true if you revisit your cache to drop a trackable or do maintenance. In these circumstances, use the "Write Note" log type or “Owner maintenance”, respectively." Quote Link to comment
Sammorost
Oh, my apologies, I did it to test what would happen when someone logged it. I will remove it. Quote Link to comment
