proxy question

Recommended Posts

so i have a geocoin that i bought and i really didnt want the coin to go missing so i put the proxy out in its place. well the proxy has unfortunately gone missing. i still however have the original coin and its not as popular as it was when i got it so i wanted to put it out in play. how do I go about doing this just drop it off? what if the proxy pops back up? then they both will be out there. any ideas on this or advice. thanks

Make it clear on the coin's page that there is a change. Include a photo of what you're placing [important: Don't post a photo that shows the secret Tracking Nunber]. A good rule of thumb is to wait til the coin has been gone for more than a year.

To get some ideas on how to handle it, see this page for several things I changed when I revived my TB Night Fury Geocoin here: https://coord.info/TB3DNPA

If the new one shows up, and if the taker is paying attention, you may see a log that mentions that it's different from the current photo and description. At that time, you can try to contact cachers who might remove the proxy from play, or whatever.

Of course, while you are welcome to put out the original, you also have the option of creating another proxy instead. It is the number that matters more than what it is on.

then i could possibly have an indefinite amount of the same T.B in circulation? seems like a potential issue no?

I got a pathtag in the (snail) mail from someone last year that came in a folded index card with a trackable number stamped on it. The instructions were to log it, then mail the next pathtag I came across to someone else in that same mailer. Note that this had nothing at all to do with the pathtag; that's just what was being mailed. It was a gift from a New Jersey cacher who was also a pathtag enthusiast.

Looking up that TB number, it quickly became apparent that that same number had been stamped on LOTS of mailers as there were logs from all over the place, at the same time.

It's kind of a mind-blowing concept to those of us that live in this three-dimensional, physics-dependent, Euclideanly-geometric world, but it's not unheard of.

Put a note on the TB page that says, "If the traveler you found is a toy turtle, please move it along. If it's a toy duck, then please email me!!! In either case, please describe the toy in your log."

When someone calls, offer to pay the postage to get it back to you.

There are a few out there that have many copies circulating, but usually it is preferable to keep just one copy circulating at a time.

At one point, having dozens of the same code circulating was grounds for getting it locked, but I'm not sure that is policed anymore.
