+GeneralVeers
Hi all. I just bought(today) a Garmin etrex 30x by the convincing of the salesman that I could geocache with it, But in my searching of how to do that, it turns out Garmin no longer supports any geocaching at all. I do have a premium account. Can someone direct me to some instructions on how to download and/or go geocaching with this device? Quote Link to comment

rapracing
Read my thread on "Am I expecting too much?" I am having a horrible experience with the 30x. I think I am returning them on Monday. A good map and a compass, provided you know how to use them, are as accurate as these units. They are all over the place. Quote Link to comment
+colleda
The Etrex 30 (and 20) are an excellent Geocaching GPSr when learnt how to use correctly. Very accurate and easy to use in the field. I've only ever use GSAK so can't help with direct to GPS PQ downloads (I really should learn how to do that). Quote Link to comment

That venture died out, but there's still literature out there that directs you to Garmin's "opencaching" site. Ignore all that. Full owner manual download: http://static.garmin.com/pumac/eTrex_10_20x_30x_OM_EN.pdf (again, ignore the bit about going to Garmin's site for downloading caches) As for being a Premium Member, you can take advantage of bookmark lists and Pocket Queries. +5Campbells
Hi General, I just purchased the eTrex 30, it is just like the 30x but with a few less newer options. Both the 30 and 30x support geocaching. Depending on what computer you have and the OS installed on it, you might have a few minor problems connecting your computer to your GOS device and have them talk back and forth. I had zero problems connecting it to my wifes Apple, the auto run feature with the installed software on the GPS auto installed all the programs needed to easily download geocaches to my device. My other PC has Windows Vista. I had to update the firmware, but all the instructions were on Garmins website. Just plug in the USB cable and attach it to your device. Visit www.geocaching.com and log in like you normally have, search for caches, once there find the small link "Send To My GPS" once you click it, it will send the whole cache description, hints and logs to your device. Good luck and have fun. Quote Link to comment
+MtnMutt-ProDuckShins
General ... Have you looked to fellow Cacher in your area you meet up with and they could help you get started. There could be an event in which someone at the event has the same model as you and they could show you a few pointed. Good luck and hope that someone in your area helps.... Quote Link to comment
