BUG: Basic Mebers can abuse the new seach System

Hi

I found a problem which could probably be a bug:

If you are a Basic Member you can see the Distance and Direction to a Premium-Cache using the new search systems function "use current location"

Premium only Traditional Caches can be found by Basic Members that way. (as well as for example the first stages of Multi Caches ect.) And trust me: they will! People always want the things the most which they are not supposed to get ;)

The main problem is, that this function makes Basic-Member geocachers search for caches, of which they have never seen the Listing. (which may includes some significant advices like the description or attributes)

I searched the forum for this issue but didn't find it being reported.

greetings

Basic Members have always been able to use search to see a list of nearby caches and this list has always included PMO caches, and it includes a rough bearing and a distance.

I don't believe that this is a bug, and I know it isn't new.

From a reviewer standpoint, that this is true is a way that a Basic Member can be helped with new cache placement. There's no help for hidden stages of caches, but at least when an area is full of PMO caches, there's a way for them to know that.

I see Basic Members trying to place in a park where most of the hides are PMO. To them, the park seems empty. Using a search from their proposed cache coords, they get a sense of how many hides are there already.

The problem with Basic Members and PMO caches is not to see them... but to log them online, they can't.

Nevertheless, as soon they ask for a Free Monthly Membership... the "problem" is solved. :)

Incorrect. Basic Members can indeed log "found it" online for PMO caches. Another old, old topic of discussion on the forum.

Search for "back door method" to learn a few of the ways that Basic Members can log PMO caches online.

Thanks. Best answer by now.

In fact i didn't realize it was possible before. It seems much easier now because the coordinates can be filled in automatically and i think it wasn't a good idea in the first place. From an owners standpoint setting a Geocache PMO should prevent Basic-Members from looking for the geocache on themselves (for different reasons). In case of traditionals it obviously doesn't. => No reason to set Cache PMO => les reasons for cachers to become PM => less money for Groundspeak => no money for servers => worse site performance

Thats what i call a loose-loose situation ;)

btw obviously english isn't my native language. i didn't know how "strong" the word abuse is.

Can I suggest you try using the method you've found to find a premium member cache - just that method. How easy do you think it is? How long do you think it would take per cache? Think of how much effort I'd have to put in using that method.

But if I buddy up with someone who pays it's ok if I get the coordinates from them?
