+mmacgown
Just yesterday I found my first benchmark in Puerto Rico near a cache and when I went to log it on the benchmark website, couldn't find it here anymore. Where did it go? I use it frequently by way of nearest to caches and now it only shows it as a waymark! Quote Link to comment
Keystone
That's because you are looking at a cache page for Puerto Rico. If you look at a cache page for the continental United States, you will see the benchmark link. Only US benchmarks were loaded into Geocaching.com many years ago. So, caches outside of the database's coverage won't have the link on the cache listing. Quote Link to comment
+Ernmark
There are a handful that have been logged over at Waymarking.com - quick link here: U.S. Benchmarks in Puerto Rico Quote Link to comment
ArtMan
Easy to remember direct link to the benchmarking page: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/ There used to be a link at the bottom of the Geocaching.com home page, but it seems to have been dropped in favor of annoying video, extra-large fonts, and too much wasted (white) space ... like pretty much every other web page designed these days. :-( Envy you being in Puerto Rico. Enjoy the weather, the coffee, the rum, the pastries at your neighborhood panaderia, and the mofongo! (The driving? Not so much....) ~ArtMan~ Quote Link to comment
+dprovan
Easy to remember direct link to the benchmarking page: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/ Since this link seems to have disappeared during the search reorganization, I've been doggedly reading this thread for 3 days hoping someone would answer this question even though the thread itself is actually about something else. Thanks a lot. Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
It's still listed at the bottom of this page: My Hides Quote Link to comment
+dprovan
It's still listed at the bottom of this page: My Hides Thanks. Needless to say, I never look at the bottom of the page since I rarely get there. I'll try to keep it in mind. (Just in case anyone else might be confused: Harry pointed to the "My Hides" page, which is pretty obscure and unrelated, and surely not where I'd look for a link to the benchmark search, but he was just using that as an example since the same boilerplate of links appear at the bottom many (all?) of the core pages.) +Harry Dolphin
Oops. That doesn't work any more. The page has been 'redesigned'. Quote Link to comment
+Isonzo Karst
The header/footer site update seems to have killed any link to the Geocaching.com Benchmark database search page. But it's still there but it's still there Benchmark Hunting http://www.geocaching.com/mark/ If you go to the Help Center and enter Benchmarks as a search term, that entire page is now hosted there, sans the actual search widget. http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=628 If you scroll down on that page, and notice the header Obtaining and Reading Datasheets On the Geocaching Site That's a link, takes you to the Geocaching.com search of benchmarks. http://www.geocaching.com/mark/default.aspx#ongeo If this link is available from some other location, directly from Geocaching.com I haven't found it yet. 2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
When you come into the "Geocache Types and Additional GPS Based Gameplay" forums subsection you will see this -- Benchmarking Discuss Benchmark Hunting and associated topics, including topics on monument recovery efforts for the National Geodetic Survey. For more information on benchmarks, visit the Benchmark Hunting page. Please note the link that is still there. I hate to bring that to attention, as that might also go away.... Did anyone say anything to Moun10bike about all the links going away? Shirley~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Edited March 26, 2015 by 2oldfarts (the rockhounders) Quote Link to comment
2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
You all might want to go here to see my reply to thebruce0 in Release Notes - March 25, 2015.
